Job Description

We are excited to offer this fixed term temporary full-time role as Manager, Central Specimen Reception, Pathology Queensland at The Royal Brisbane Women's Hospital. As the Manager CSR, you will be primarily responsible for the oversight of the scientific, operational, human resource and quality aspects within the Central Specimen Reception unit of the Core Laboratory, in conjunction with the Core Laboratory Manager. This position manages more than 60 staff and the service is critical to the RBWH and statewide due to incoming referred work. The Central Specimen Reception (CSR) unit of the Core Laboratory undertakes the pre-analytical processing of specimens received from within the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, those referred from other laboratories within the Pathology Queensland network, and those referred from various external clients. The CSR unit operates 24 hours, 7 days. It is expected that you will have significant current knowledge and experience in general clinical laboratory principles and practice, including pre-analytical processes. Monitor quality and institute appropriate corrective action (in conjunction with Pathologists and other senior scientists) for all pre-analytical procedures undertaken in the CSR unit. Key competencies (role specific criteria) Significant experience and knowledge in the performance of pre-analytical procedures with current theoretical knowledge and understanding of general laboratory principles and procedures. Proven ability to solve complex problems and show initiative in the workplace. Proven advanced level communication, mentoring and training skills. Proven ability to develop and maintain a positive team culture and hold others to account for their behaviour. Highly developed customer focus with experience dealing with a variety of people; and a high level of awareness of impact of the individual on the overall customer experience. High level understanding of laboratory quality systems and the requirements of NATA accreditation and ISO certification. Experience in the application of human resource management policies applicable to contemporary workplaces. Qualifications, registrations and other requirements Minimum qualification for Health Practitioner Level 5 (HP5): The successful applicant must hold a relevant degree in science or equivalent from a recognised University or tertiary institution. Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and/or registration with the appropriate registration authority, including any necessary endorsements, to be provided to the employing service prior to the commencement of service. Overseas applicants are reminded that assessment of equivalence of qualifications is required. The Central Core Laboratory delivers a 24-hour, 7-day service. All newly appointed Core Laboratory staff are engaged with the understanding that they may be required to work any rostered shift within the 24-hour 7-day roster period, including overtime as required.
