Career Medical Officer - Emergency Medicine, Hawkesbury Hospital Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District REQ556174 Career Medical Officer - Emergency Medicine, Hawkesbury Hospital Employment Type : Temporary Full time and Part Time (01-Apr-2025 to 31-Jan-2027)Position Classification : Career Medical OfficerRemuneration : $139,187 - $168,166Hours Per Week : up to 38Requisition ID : REQ556174 Hawkesbury District Hospital is a 125-bed teaching hospital providing acute and allied health services with a 24-hour emergency department, surgical, diagnostic and specialised medical services. The Career Medical Officer is responsible for the assessment, investigation, and initial management of patients presenting to the Emergency Department under the supervision of the Emergency Physician on duty. This role also supports the completion of the Certificate and Diploma of Emergency Medicine through the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM). Decision making and supervision will be at the appropriate level according to the medical officer’s skills, knowledge, and experience. The medical officer will adopt a progressively more autonomous approach to patient management, under the guidance of the appropriate Specialist. All patients managed within the hospitals of the health district are under the direct care of a Specialist medical practitioner, and all decisions regarding their care are to be clearly documented and communicated with the specialist responsible for that care. Selection criteria: Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously within a supervised complex clinical environment utilizing excellent clinical skills, judgment, and expertise. Minimum three years postgraduate experience including 6 months minimum emergency medicine experience in an Australian Emergency Department in the last 2 years. Adept ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams, including sharing of appropriate information internally and externally with key persons or services. Advanced verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to vary communication style in line with the understanding of the needs of diverse audiences. Demonstrated ability to prioritise workloads and display a flexible approach to meet changing situations in a demanding and unpredictable clinical environment. Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development and self-education. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety, and risk management.
