Chapter Lead (Senior Engineering Manager), Software Engineering See yourself in our team The Retail Technology unit delivers the best digital banking services to Commonwealth Bank customers. It is also dedicated to delivering the best workplace technology experience for our over 53,000 people across CBA and focused on providing the latest tools, technology, and resources to enhance the way we work together and empower our people to achieve more for our customers. This role specifically is within the Assisted Channels Domain where you will have an opportunity to be part of the CommSee platform which integrates digital and assisted experiences seamlessly and supports frontline staff across Retail Banking and Business banking products. Do work that matters CommSee is Commbank’s unique, core assisted channel that supports our business in supporting the needs of our customers. Today it supports ~30,000 users on over 90,000 daily sessions across all our business capabilities. CommSee 2.0 is an exciting rewrite of this classic platform that will provide a reimagined assisted experience to allow our staff to be highly productive in best serving customers. It will be the single pane of glass that allows CBA to deliver service excellence to all Australians. As a Chapter Lead (Senior Engineering Manager) , you’ll be a hands-on technical lead, providing expert advice relating to technology, people management, hiring, architecture roadmap, and leadership guidance in order to drive excellence and ensure technical delivery meets the engineering standards and practices. We’re interested in hearing from people who: Have hands-on technical expertise in front-end web technologies, Microsoft tech stack, AWS cloud, as well as an understanding of DevSecOps. Have the ability to build, lead, and inspire an engaged cross-functional team of engineers across multiple disciplines (Software, Quality, Platform, etc.) while also fostering an engineering culture of excellence. Can effectively communicate engineering practice standards and consistent ways of working across squads and CBA that align to global best practice. Encourage risk-taking and constructive challenge while growing diverse and inclusive teams. Can successfully advocate for new technology approaches, with the experience to understand the architectural integration of new software solutions. Have experience working in a DevSecOps Model and can help to drive the adoption for the teams. Technical Skills: We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don’t expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these will set you up for success in this team: A solid technical foundation in diverse technologies as well as a track record of leading high-performing engineering teams. Experience with technologies like: Front-end technologies like React & Typescript, Backend Languages (C#, Node.js), API & Microservices, API Gateways, OAuth-IDAM, NoSQL databases, PostgreSQL, etc. Good understanding of modern JavaScript frameworks - Next.js. Good understanding of large-scale distributed systems, Event-driven architecture, microservices architecture. Knowledge & experience of AWS cloud and experience using Cloud native capabilities (preferred). Knowledge of DevSecOps best Practices with CI/CD tools, Observability, and processes for Software Delivery Lifecycle. Knowledge of Test Automation frameworks and tools such as Playwright, Blazemeter / Jmeter, API Contract Testing, End-To-End BVTs.
