Katherine West Health Board (KWHB) is currently looking for a Child Health Program Coordinator . This position will be well suited to someone who is a Registered Nurse or Aboriginal health practitioner with extensive experience working with children in remote health environments. With an understanding of Aboriginal cultural values, and commitment to the advancement and self-determination of Aboriginal communities. Established in 1998, Katherine West Health Board is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation that provides a range of clinical, preventative and public health services to clients in the Katherine West Region of the Northern Territory. With four major health care centres and a range of satellite centres, KWHB services an area over two times the size of Tasmania (162,000km²), helping to improve the health and wellbeing of some of the most remote communities in Australia. The focus of the Child Health Program is to conduct and increase health assessments to address developmental, physical and emotional wellbeing of children and young people in the KWHB region. This includes strengthening existing child health surveillance, providing targeted health checks that address physical and emotional development, ensuring timely delivery of immunisations and addressing emerging health issues in young people – such as mental health, substance use and protective behaviours. Responsibilities will include (but not limited to): Provide quality primary health care to children, young people and their families, with a focus on driving strong health outcomes for children and young people aged 5-17 years of age. Promote, support, and empower clients and families using culturally secure practice and culturally appropriate resources to optimise child health outcomes. Collaborate closely with the Strong Beginnings for Strong Families nurses to smoothly transition children aged five and their families from the Strong Beginnings for Strong Families service program to the provision of ongoing child health supports. Provide leadership in child health across multidisciplinary teams to ensure a high-quality holistic approach to the delivery of child health care in the region. Participate in quality improvement activities for the child health program to ensure the provision of high-quality care to children in the region. Participate in health promotion as outlined in KWHB health promotion strategy.
