APS 5 - Communication Officer - Deputy Editor $83,706 - $89,659 + up to 15.4% Superannuation Russell - ACT The Role Join the dynamic team within the Defence News Bureau that is responsible for sharing Defence's stories with audiences ranging from military personnel and veterans to Defence industry and the public.Your role will be to support the Defence News team in generating, publishing and distributing engaging stories that serve Defence’s strategic priorities.You will work with editors and military reporters on producing the Australian Defence Force newspapers, managing Defence's external news website and identifying content suitable for wider dissemination.Key duties include: Copy editing, page layout and proofreading Preparing and publishing online news content Identifying stories and imagery for wider distribution Working with contributors and other stakeholders to develop stories and manage submissions The role may also involve assisting the Bureau’s advertising/administration officer with tasks related to the newspapers’ production and distribution. About our Team The Defence News team, including Australian Public Service and ADF members, is located within the Defence News Bureau (DNB) and is responsible for: Generating, editing and publishing news content for Defence channels, including the three Service Newspapers and the Defence News website (defence.gov.au) Identifying content for dissemination to external outlets Providing writing and imagery support to Defence/ADF activities Advising on, and assisting stakeholders with, developing suitable content Contributing to strategic communication planning within the enterprise The DNB sits within the Media and Information Disclosure (MID) Branch, which is responsible for day-to-day media operations across Defence. MID Branch brings together media and communication operations to ensure the department’s messaging is clear, consistent and up to the expected standards.
