Job Description

Are you passionate about mobilising the community to take climate action and reduce greenhouse emissions? Full time, permanent role $106K to $119K per annum (depending on skills and experience) + Superannuation About the role As a key member of the Climate and Sustainability team, the Community Climate Action Specialist will lead Glen Eira’s efforts to support our community to reduce emissions and act on climate change at home, at work, at school, and as a community. This will involve developing and delivering programs to mobilise the community and rapidly accelerate community climate action. Other responsibilities include: Leading the strategic direction, design, development, delivery and evaluation of community mobilisation and engagement programs, including capacity building programs, community events and a range of communications initiatives Engaging with different segments of our community to investigate, research and identify their needs, motivators and barriers to action. Delivering ongoing projects and programs and communications. Engaging with external delivery partners and stakeholders to support climate emergency action and actively participating in joint sustainability projects between councils and external providers. Contributing subject matter expertise to policy, strategy and program development, including the refresh of Our Climate Emergency Response Strategy 2021-2025 | Dhumbali Wurrungi-biik Parbin-ata . About you You will possess expertise in climate change and sustainability, as well as demonstrated experience in leading, planning, managing and evaluating community programs, including behavioural change and educational initiatives. The following is also required: Tertiary qualifications in environmental science, sustainability, community development, communications, project management or other related discipline or lesser formal qualifications with substantial experience. Experience in leading, planning, managing and evaluating community programs Subject matter expertise developed through several years working in sustainability, climate change action and/or relevant community programs. Demonstrated experience in working with, and supporting people, from a diverse range of backgrounds. Experience working with project partners, community organisations, groups and/or schools.
