The Data Team within the broader Coles Technology Team focuses on building data collection and analytics capabilities to uncover customer, product, and operational insights, providing data-driven support to our users and enabling Coles to be a data-driven organisation. About the role A new, permanent opportunity for a Data Engineer - Insights is now available at Coles. As a Data Engineer, you will bring extensive expertise on data handling and curation capabilities to the team. You’ll be responsible for building intelligent domains using market-leading tools, ultimately improving the way we work in Data, and delivery of key data initiatives, using market-leading cloud technologies including Azure DevOps, Azure Data Factory, DBT, and Snowflake. Key responsibilities will include: Solid experience, knowledge, and skills in Data Engineering, BI/software development such as ELT/ETL, data extraction, and manipulation in Data Lake/Data Warehouse environment. Proven experience in data modelling, analysis, and profiling. Experience of working in diverse data domains. Continuous improvement and performance optimisation practices ensuring high levels of performance, availability, and integrity. Experience in working within an Agile environment. Experience in applying DevOps practices, SDLC, CI/CD principles to build automated pipelines and deployment. In-depth understanding of data engineering practices and big data technologies. Hands-on experience in SQL, Snowflake, and DBT Core. Experience with Python and Spark, and one or more of its API (PySpark, Spark SQL, Scala), Bash/Shell scripting. Experience with source code control – GitHub, etc. Knowledge and exposure to cloud Big Data warehouses - Snowflake, Databricks, etc. Experience with UNIX command-line tools. About you & your skills You will have previous experience in a similar role, offering ongoing support to functional and technical stakeholders working in a large, complex, and data-driven organisation. You'll also need: Solid hands-on experience in Python, SQL, and Snowflake, essential. Previously worked in at least one of these cloud technologies: Azure or AWS. Proficiency in data pipelining, distributed data processing, software engineering components, and data modelling concepts. Exposure to CI/CD pipelines using a tech stack of Git and Azure. Exposure to Data Factory and Databricks highly regarded but not essential. Commercial Skills and Formal Qualifications Tertiary qualifications in IT or a related discipline preferred.
