Job Description

Australian Steel Pty Ltd We are looking for an enthusiastic and early career Design Engineering Technologist with the right skill set to join our growing team. LOCATION: The position is based at 64 Mills Rd, Braeside VIC 3195. This is a full-time and onsite position with a minimum of 38 hours a week. Flexibility is required for overtime during peak periods. REPORTING TO: The position reports to the Production and Project Manager of the company. Benefits DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Please see below some of the duties and responsibilities expected out of the role: Improve existing methods and processes; Find creative design solutions to problems; Implement cost reduction initiatives while maintaining high quality standards; Evaluate current production procedures and make recommendations for improvements; Develop best practices to increase production capacity, quality, and reliability; Present designs and drawings to customers and project management team; Digitise physical prototype/profile and draft with software; Adjust program and cutting speed according to profile using G code; Prepare and maintain accurate technical documentation, including specifications, user manuals, and engineering drawings; Address any issues that arise during the design and production stages, such as design flaws, production limitations, or material problems; Assist in choosing materials that are appropriate for the design, considering factors like strength, durability, cost, and weight; Craft models and drawings of profiles using CAD; Plot and draw in CAD - templates of parts that customers have requested; Contact customers for any drawing or order-related issues; Ensure each machine has sufficient workload; Keep work levels up to date in the factory; Post CAM files to all machines; Change/arrange CAM for best cutting approach; Check torch distance and enter data for cutters on their machines; Update cutting Kerfs and speed on data sheets; Set up CNC drilling machine for jobs requiring holes drilled; Ensure that designs and prototypes meet established quality standards and specifications before going into production. Qualification & Experience QUALIFICATION: Must hold relevant Australian Qualification Framework (AQF ) or equivalent bachelor’s degree. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum three (3) years of full-time/equivalent work experience as an Engineering Technologist or in a similar role in a production environment. Oral and written communication skills of a level to take instruction and provide information to other staff, management, and owners. Ability to work and manage a team, also to work independently. Sound knowledge and experience on Computer-Aided Design (CAD ) and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM ) will be given priority. Past proven experience operating ITMS Manufacturing Software will be highly regarded. Sound knowledge and experience adhering to ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System requirements. Sound knowledge of Oxy/Plasma cutting machine operating principles.
