The opportunity As a Digital Forensics Specialist, you will be working on and researching digital forensic techniques on various devices and operating systems to enhance ASIO’s technical analysis capability. This may include analysis of digital forensic data collected by or provided to ASIO for analysis in order to enable ASIO’s mission of protecting Australia and Australians from threats to their security. Developing tools to automate the technical analysis of collected data, where possible to increase efficiencies within the team. Additionally, this role will require engagement with areas across ASIO and our partners to assist them in developing their own capabilities. Role responsibilities In this position you will: Leverage your understanding of digital forensics to enhance and improve ASIO’s digital forensic analysis processes. Research the methods used to store data and how it can be interpreted. Complete technical analysis of data from various sources and of different types. Develop automation tools to assist in the automation of technical analysis for ASIO. Engage with partners to gather ideas about technical analysis capabilities, strategies and research. Troubleshoot various complex technical issues. Collaborate with internal teams to support this technical analysis. What you will bring We invite applications from people with the following attributes: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work under pressure. Demonstrated ability to work closely with stakeholders, including internal technology teams, external managed service providers, vendor professional services and domestic and international partners. Proven track record and professional history in digital forensics with an ability to deliver in depth, reliable and resilient technical analysis. Solid understanding of BASH, Python and forensic tooling. Understanding of the design, implementation, and/or maintenance of technical capabilities and/or applications. Familiarity with various operating systems e.g. Linux, Windows, MacOS, iOS and Android. Strong ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Demonstrated skills in time management and handling competing priorities.
