RSP currently has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Digital Matte Painter to join our team for a number of highly anticipated feature films. Employment period: Short term contract with an ASAP start. Location: Adelaide, Australia. This position is open to applicants within Australia, with full working rights. Position Overview: With a number of substantial projects ahead, we require extensive photorealistic matte paintings and environments to be created at exceptional quality. Here we strive to create breathtaking visual effects, and creating outstanding images is at the very core of our existence. Successful applicants will have a good mix of creative and technical skills, using Photoshop (Nuke skills preferred but not essential) to complete stunning environments. Photorealistic paint skills are essential, and your reel will extensively showcase examples of live action work. You are a professional artist who works collaboratively with your team and associated departments, and have over four years experience in high-end visual effects and live-action feature films. You are an excellent time manager and forward thinker who delivers to schedule and brief. You have an expert creative eye and a deep understanding of depth, lighting and perspective to achieve realism. Responsibilities: Create realistic high-end matte paintings, including: from scratch digital matte paintings, projection mapping, and scene augmentation. Collaborate with your lead, assisting in the conceptualisation of environments. Work with all DMP & Environment team members collaboratively to tight delivery parameters. Iterate your work as required by your Lead, Head of Department, or the 2D Supervisor. Expect additional delegated tasks by them. Adapt work according to the changing needs of a developing brief. Work in a manner that allows other compositing team members to pick up your work if necessary. Review and QC your work for internal and external delivery ensuring it hits creative and technical notes. Manage your workload. Advise your lead/head of dept of any obstacles which may affect delivery quality, timeliness or budget. Promote a collaborative and enjoyable workplace, influencing morale, fostering purposeful discussion and positive work ethic. Required skills and experience: Minimum 5 years professional experience creating photo-realistic environments for live-action feature film. Expert user of Photoshop & proficient in Nuke. Experience with Maya & Mari is a plus. Deep understanding of colour, light, and composition. Maintain a calm and professional demeanor in a deadline-focused work environment. Expert organisational skills, maintaining a calm and professional demeanor in a delivery-focused work environment. Technical and creative problem-solving with a can-do mindset. Working knowledge of the VFX pipeline and entire post-production process, including interdepartmental dependencies and hand over processes. Visual Effects, Fine Art, Computer Science, Physics or Mathematics or related tertiary qualification may be required for international applicants.
