Overview The Director Aboriginal Strategy is responsible for providing strategic leadership and strategic advice on Aboriginal health matters in the Rural Support Service (RSS), and to establish systems and processes that support the development, deployment, and evaluation of the regional Local Health Networks (LHNs) strategic Aboriginal health agenda. An initial action will be to establish a dedicated Aboriginal Health Strategy Work Stream within the existing RSS structure. As the Director of the Aboriginal Health Strategy Work Stream, this role will be part of the RSS Leadership Group and will therefore be integral to broader RSS strategic decision making. The position is responsible for leading the establishment of systems and processes that will provide regional clinical and wellbeing programs with the opportunity, advice, support, and direction they need to deliver effective and culturally acceptable services for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This includes advice on service development, planning, performance, governance structures and accountability. The Director Aboriginal Strategy will play a significant role in raising matters of accountability and developing systematic approaches in relation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health throughout the RSS. The incumbent is required to provide expert analysis of diverse data sources and undertake research to develop policies, plans, structures, and projects that impact on service delivery within rural and remote South Australia. The position will be required to provide leadership advice on Aboriginal issues, on strategic Aboriginal policy development and responses; and service improvement initiatives that ensure Aboriginal outcomes across the RSS ranges of services. Responsibility for ensuring that established systems include appropriate models of community consultation and enhance existing internal/external relationships to further improve health outcomes for the community are key to the successful undertaking of the position.
