$139,681 - $167,659 + up to 15.4% Superannuation (Includes scheduled March 2025 pay increase in accordance with the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement 2024) The Role Defence is seeking an outstanding leader to undertake cost estimation and assurance to deliver and drive changes through the costing community and support complex projects. Defence Finance Group (DFG) is undertaking an Executive Level 2 recruitment round for the role in the Financial Performance and Management (FP&M) Division. Duties for the position include but are not limited to: Oversight of cost assurance and cost estimation for Defence projects going through the approvals process. Develop briefs for senior executives on project cost risk and provide judgement on impacts across the total project lifecycle. Support the implementation of cost estimation tools and research. Support the data collection and analytics of projects to create better estimates. Mentor and develop a national team across multiple states. Liaise with stakeholders in groups and services who work across different projects of complexity. About our Team The Capability Costing Branch is growing and focusing on expanding the service offering across Defence. The focus of the branch is in providing cost assurance, cost estimation, policy leadership and enterprise costing solution software support. The branch has a national presence across multiple states and provides high level advice on every project that is costed by Defence. FP&M Division delivers financial advice and performance reporting to Groups and Services, Ministers and other government departments, across all Defence programs and activities including workforce, capital, sustainment and operating budgets. FP&M Division consists of over 450 staff working in seven branches, each managing around $6 billion per year, with embedded finance staff across the country working closely with business areas. Principally, the Division is responsible for delivering financial management information and advice to ensure Defence leaders can make well-informed decisions. Think big numbers, many complex projects running in parallel, and close public scrutiny requiring carefully managed finances. Our Ideal Candidate As an EL 2, you will operate with considerable independence to perform and achieve cost estimation and assurance work within an integrated workforce. You will need to be familiar with project lifecycles and the Defence integrated investment program. Our ideal candidates will have the following skills and attributes: Strong experience in working with complex projects, preferably in the Defence environment. Experience in cost estimation, project finance or cost recovery and forecasting. Experience in presenting to high level stakeholders and clearly communicating issues. Proven experience in leading teams and mentoring staff. Ability to operate independently with conflicting priorities and produce high quality outcomes in a fast paced environment.
