Job Description

Director, First Nations Training Pathway Programs Would you like to join the Metro North Health team and contribute towards achieving health equity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people? Lead strategic workforce initiatives to enhance health equity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people by building workforce capacity. Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community. About the role The purpose of the role is to improve health equity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Queensland through building the capacity and capability of the health workforce. This role will provide high level strategic leadership and management to identify, manage, implement and evaluate state-wide workforce initiatives including the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander State-wide Cadetship Program and Deadly Start School Based Traineeship Expansion Program. About you This successful applicant will carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values: Provide high level strategic leadership and management in the initiation, development, implementation and evaluation of strategic workforce initiatives and reform, including the state-wide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cadetship Program and Deadly Start School Based Traineeship Expansion Program. Develop, manage and maintain effective partnerships with Hospital and Health Services, First Nations Workforce Branch, Department of Health, education providers including universities and registered training organisations, other government and non-government agencies including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Healthcare Organisations and relevant peak bodies, and other jurisdictions to address recruitment, retention and workforce capacity and capability issues. Provide strategic leadership in state-wide service and workforce reform, and clinical education and training strategies, applying high level knowledge of factors influencing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers' access, engagement, and experience of health services. Lead and advocate authoritatively for the development of new policy and strategic initiatives across Queensland and nationally to improve health equity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people through delivery of culturally sensitive health services, and development of training to employment pathways for health professionals and other relevant workforce groups. Develop high quality reports, submissions, plans, frameworks and guidelines and consultative documents on a broad range of complex workforce strategies, service provision and management issues to meet the needs of diverse stakeholders at all levels of Queensland Health and external to the organisation at both a jurisdictional and national level.
