They bring expertise to master planning, strategic and complex residential projects on vacant or established sites operating across Greater Sydney or regional areas as directed by the NSW Government. The Role The Director Sustainability is responsible for leading the sustainability function to position Landcom as a world leader in complex urban renewal projects and as a trusted lead agency facilitator in the communities through the delivery of world-class sustainability outcomes on all projects. The position is responsible for managing the development and implementation of best-in-class corporate policy, strategy and direction on city-scale sustainable development based on leading local and international experience and academic research and practice. Key Roles and Responsibilities Lead and oversee the sustainability function for Landcom including strategic direction, planning and staff management to deliver key strategic objectives and deliverables across environmental sustainability, social sustainability, economic sustainability, housing affordability, urban design and innovation. Drive sustainability leadership culture change within Landcom to influence the prioritisation of incorporation of sustainability objectives and indicators across all projects and programs of work. Develop, implement and deliver a sustainability reporting system including a reporting database/system that builds on the organisation’s track record in sustainability and reporting and reflects the ambition and mandate of the new organisation to be a global leader in this field. Assess and provide advice on implications of future developments in urban management policies and global trends from both macro and micro perspectives to influence the incorporation and achievement of sustainability objectives. Lead and oversee the review and evaluation of sustainability policies, strategies, reporting and guidelines to ensure they remain relevant to the organisation’s business and changing external operating environment. Provide thought leadership for all operational and corporate policy issues relating to sustainable development and sustainability management and influence outcomes. Ensure adherence to all Landcom policies, procedures, and practices, including effective records management, meeting legal requirements and following P&C, procurement and finance processes. About You You are a sustainability leader with a demonstrated track record of managing the sustainability function for a large business, ideally in a large Property development business. You thrive working in a fast-paced environment and are strategically minded with a positive can-do approach to delivering on multiple projects and priorities. Not one to hide behind a desk, you are proactive in building relationships across the entire organisation and are known for being collaborative and proactive. Driven by the passion for sustainability and providing solutions to housing affordability and supply shortages that society currently faces, you thrive on bringing people on the journey in an inclusive and tactful manner. Required Skills and Proficiencies Tertiary qualifications in Sustainability, Environmental Management/ Science, Engineering or related discipline. Demonstrated expert leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate. Extensive experience in environmental, social and economic sustainability as it specifically relates to the property and development sector. Extensive experience in successful stakeholder management and in the negotiation of complex issues. Strong communication, interpersonal, conflict resolution, negotiation and influencing skills. Strong working knowledge of corporate policy, legislation and strategy requirements as they apply to statutory corporations operating in the land and property development industry. Demonstrated capacity to apply strategic level thinking, problem solving and decision making to the resolution of complex problems. Demonstrated experience coaching and influencing change and advocacy for sustainable outcomes.
