About the role The newly established role of Disability Transition Support Officer plays a crucial role in providing tailored assistance to students with disabilities as they transition from secondary school to tertiary education. Operating within a ‘Team Around the Learner’ framework, this position entails guiding and overseeing students throughout their initial enrolment and commencement process. Collaborating closely with secondary schools, the role aims to foster an understanding of the TAFE Gippsland environment and share effective transition practices across the Victorian TAFE Network. In this role, advocacy, information dissemination, strength-based coaching, negotiation, implementation of reasonable adjustments, and facilitating linkages to relevant services are essential components. As part of the broader Student Support Services team, the Disability Transition Support Officer adopts a collaborative approach, working alongside the student, Disability & Access Advisors, teaching staff, secondary schools, care teams, and other stakeholders to ensure the transitioning student’s success. A six-month probation period applies to this position. Your Experience and Qualifications A tertiary or further education qualification in a disability or community related discipline Experience in the provision of support services to people with a disability, preferably in an education setting Demonstrated commitment and experience in person-centred practice Familiarity with best practice models for disability support within an educational context (e.g. planning, case management, information provision, strengths-based coaching, reasonable adjustments, mental health first aid, mediation, conflict resolution, and supported referral) Underpinning knowledge of the NDIS and other supports available to people with a disability All TAFE Gippsland staff require a current Drivers Licence, employee Working with Children Clearance, satisfactory National Police Check, and Current Covid-19 Vaccination Certificate (2 doses).
