PRINCIPAL ECOLOGIST What you’ll own: Guide a broad range of projects and coordinate the efforts of your team. Show off your expertise in government legislation, particularly relating to ecology, to guide Biodiversity Australia’s compliance and decision-making. Compile, edit and review specialised reports for clients, and legislation driven applications, permits and reporting. Develop and submit proposals and tenders, guiding the Tender Team to ensure alignment with Biodiversity Australia’s standards. Drive business development with new and existing clients. Coordinate projects efficiently, ensuring they meet both internal and external client expectations in terms of timelines and financial considerations. Proactively plan and manage resource needs, ensuring your team is equipped for growth. Why you’re a good match: Tertiary qualification in Ecology, Zoology, and/or Natural Resource Management or equivalent. 10+ years of experience conducting ecology field assessments throughout NSW. Demonstrated experience in managing ecological assessments including impact assessments, baseline assessments, offset monitoring. Experienced in conducting ecological assessments as part of the federal and state development approval process. High attention to detail and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experienced in field-based ecological survey design methodologies and data collection. Proficient in off-based research, data compilation and reporting. Strong leadership, supervisory, interpersonal and negotiation skills. Strong analytical skills and problem-solving capability. Experience in coordinating staff including rostering and performance management. A certification in protected plant surveys is desirable. SENIOR ECOLOGIST (MULTIPLE ROLES AVAILABLE) What you’ll own: Manage ecological projects from initial scope and client liaison, field flora and fauna surveys, through to commercial delivery. Show off your expertise in the EPBC Act and knowledge of NSW environmental legislation. Leverage your networking skills to build and maintain strong relationships with clients across the resources, infrastructure, government, defence, residential, and aviation sectors. Lead and mentor our Ecologists in their development as field ecologists, project management and client liaison on their journey to being well rounded consultants. Preparation of technical reports, field surveys, impact assessments, analytics, approvals and more. Assist the Tender Team with the preparation of submissions and proposals, utilising your technical writing expertise. Why you’re a good match: Tertiary qualification in Ecology, Zoology, and/or Natural Resource Management or equivalent. Minimum 5 years postgraduate experience in a relevant field is desirable. A certification in protected plant surveys is desirable. Working knowledge of consulting practice plus extensive project management skills. Demonstrated experience in preparing, submitting, and managing specialist biological assessment reports. Previous Team Leading or Management experience if expressed interest for a Team Leader opportunity. You must have the ability and willingness to undertake field work when required. Current drivers licence, White Card and First Aid Certificate. BAM Accredited Assessors will be highly regarded. ECOLOGISTS (MULTIPLE ROLES AVAILABLE) What you’ll own: As the Ecologist, you will conduct field ecology activities and be the knowledge expert in field ecology related activities throughout the division. Opportunities may arise for you to work across the greater NSW region and Australia where your skills are required, and depending on your achievement of expectations, your role with Biodiversity Australia could have significant long term career growth. Why you’re a good match: Tertiary qualification in Ecology, Zoology, and/or Natural Resource Management or equivalent. 3 years postgraduate experience in a relevant field is desirable, however graduates will also be considered. Experience managing ecological projects from initial scope and client liaison, field flora and fauna surveys through to commercial delivery. Experience maintaining professional relationships with clients from across the resources and infrastructure, government, defence, residential, and aviation sectors. Sound knowledge and understanding of local, state, and federal environmental regulations and their applications as well as relevant industry standards and practices. Knowledge of consulting practices. Demonstrated experience in preparing, submitting, and managing specialist biological assessment reports. Demonstrated experience in preparing, submitting, and managing specialist ecological assessment reports. You must have the ability and willingness to undertake field work when required.
