Work Location: 50/50 split across Solomon and Perth with regular travel to all Fortescue Power System locations. Fortescue’s Solomon mine is located on the traditional lands of the Eastern Guruma and Yindjibarndi peoples. The primary role of the Senior Electrical Engineer is to ensure that our power system assets meet the needs of our business. Operational support of breakdowns, identification, analysis and rectification of electrical issues, the delivery of medium-sized electrical projects, and the investigation of failures and reliability issues with respect to power generation, transmission & distribution assets. The role currently supports multiple power stations, transmission & distribution networks. The assets within each power station consist of a mix of gas and diesel reciprocating engines, GE LM6000 gas turbines, Solar Titan 130 Gas Turbines, a 100MW solar farm and two Battery Energy Storage Systems. Our transmission and distribution network contains over 500km of overhead line and growing with equipment from 220kV down to local 11kV distribution. Key Responsibilities Assist operational teams with the troubleshooting and problem solving on day-to-day issues. Conduct Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to identify and mitigate potential failure modes. Develop and implement maintenance strategies to improve the reliability of electrical systems and components. Analyse equipment performance data to identify trends and opportunities for enhancement. Assist operational and planning teams with the execution of the maintenance strategies. Develop and optimise asset management strategies for electrical systems. Contribute to the development of long-term asset lifecycle plans. Provide technical support in project feasibility studies, detailed design, and commissioning phases. Ensure that electrical reliability considerations are integrated into new projects. Collaborate with project teams to standardise and procure reliable electrical assets. Provide guidance on troubleshooting and defect elimination strategies. Qualifications and Experience A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or electrical trade certificate. Minimum 6+ years’ experience in an operational engineering, reliability, or maintenance roles. Previous power station or transmission system experience. About Us Be part of something big.
