AEMO’s role is to design and operate a sustainable energy system that provides safe, reliable and affordable electricity and gas today, and to enable the energy transition for the benefit of all Australians. All Australian governments are now committed to a net-zero economy for Australia by 2050, the first step of which is a net-zero energy system. We are collaborating with industry and other stakeholders to engineer electricity grids that can handle 100 per cent instantaneous renewable generation by 2025. AEMO also plays a significant role in the east coast gas market, which has recently expanded to assessing if there is enough natural gas for customers, including electricity generators. About the role Our Markets Insights team plays a pivotal role in providing detailed and highly insightful reporting to an array of internal and external stakeholders. As an Analyst – Energy Market Insights , you will be key in such publications as the Quarterly Energy Dynamics report, which is seen in the industry as a source of truth on what has happened over the last 3 months in the electricity and gas markets.This role will deliver insightful analysis on the energy markets which AEMO operates, that identifies key emerging issues and trends, alongside their associated implications, to inform debate and drive market change.We are looking for a passionate candidate who is willing to develop and grow their career within the Energy Field. This opportunity will allow you to contribute to widely read, meaningful energy reports based on quality research.Please note this is a permanent position available across multiple locations, including Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney CBD & Norwest. What you will be doing Deliver analysis and insights on current and future issues and trends that may impact AEMO’s markets and strategic initiatives, and which may form the basis for change. Working across electricity and gas markets as well as associated non-AEMO markets, support team members to identify and investigate trends and dynamics in Australia’s energy markets. Support Markets’ Strategic Initiatives. Support projects by contributing to activities as delegated and escalating issues with senior staff as required. Document results and draw key conclusions using clear and concise language that is understandable to a diverse audience. Using structure and objectives provided, draft documents that require only minimal revision to incorporate feedback. What you will bring to the role Demonstrated experience in a similar role in industry, consulting, or finance. Experience and knowledge in the energy industry including AEMO’s wholesale and retail energy markets as well as related energy markets including ASX energy futures, green certificates, carbon, C&I prices etc preferred. Strong analytical, problem-solving and data-handling skills: SQL, Python, R or other programming knowledge would be beneficial, with an ability to draw out conclusions from statistical modelling. Strong communication skills, with an ability to describe conclusions from statistical modelling in an insightful manner. Able to work across several projects simultaneously, at times with minimal supervision.
