The Opportunity In line with the Future Fund's updated investment mandate, we are seeking a visionary leader to spearhead a newly established Energy Transition strategy. This critical role will drive and execute our strategic approach to investing in the energy transition sector, ensuring our portfolio aligns with global energy transition goals.The Energy Transition team, part of the Real Assets pillar, is responsible for providing input on how trends in the energy transition sector influence the overall portfolio, developing a holistic approach to energy transition investing, and executing that strategy across the portfolio. You will report to and work closely with the Managing Director, Real Assets, and collaborate with other teams across traditional and alternative investment sectors, including listed equities, credit, real estate, private equity, infrastructure & timberland and alternatives.If you are passionate about leading transformative change and have a proven track record in the energy sector, we invite you to apply and be part of our dynamic team.Key Responsibilities As the Executive Director, Energy Transition, you will play a crucial role in fostering an inclusive, dynamic, and high-performing team culture. You will be responsible for building and developing a high-performance Energy Transition team, providing active leadership, guidance, and mentorship across the organisation. Your role will also involve supporting organisational initiatives and contributing to the agency's operational efficiency.You will be responsible for setting and delivering the Energy Transition strategy, identifying key themes in the sector, and understanding how these may influence the overall portfolio. You will actively contribute to a holistic, whole-of-portfolio investment approach, collaborating closely with other teams within the organisation to ensure a cohesive strategy.Your investment judgment and contribution will be pivotal in executing the Energy Transition strategy by building a high-quality global portfolio. This includes overseeing commercial negotiations, managing external advisors, and preparing internal committee and Board papers. You will also be responsible for transaction structuring, monitoring processes, and staying abreast of global market trends. Additionally, you will build and maintain long-term relationships with investment managers and partners, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines and positively representing the Fund at industry events. About You To be considered for the role of Executive Director, Energy Transition, candidates must possess a university degree in economics, commerce, or finance, with postgraduate studies or professional accreditation in a related field (such as an MBA or CFA) being highly desirable. The ideal candidate will be a senior investment professional with extensive experience in the Energy Transition, infrastructure, or real assets sectors. They should have a strong understanding of commercial and legal aspects of transaction structures in the Energy Transition sector, along with a demonstrated ability to manage commercial negotiations.Candidates should have a deep understanding of thematic trends in the Energy Transition sector and their applicability to a broader investment portfolio. A robust network of relationships within the Energy Transition sector is essential to effectively execute the strategy. Additionally, candidates must have a strong grasp of multi-asset class investment management, including portfolio construction and investment strategy. The ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of senior stakeholders and maintain high levels of organisation and time management is crucial.Key competencies for success in this role include the ability to deliver clear recommendations and engage in respectful debate, inviting diverse views and accepting challenges that advance analysis. The candidate should be able to drive the generation of new ideas and insights, encourage experimentation, and foster an environment where it is safe to fail and learn from experience. They must be able to challenge the implications of decisions across the total portfolio, articulate the materiality of decisions, and consider the broader impact on team and organisational activities. Identifying investment opportunities through a comprehensive assessment of the total portfolio and staying sensitive to adjustments across all sectors is also essential.Please note this opportunity is open to Australian Citizens only.
