About the Location Milingimbi Island (Yurruwi) is the largest of the Crocodile Islands off Arnhem Land, Northern Territory, with a population of 1,400. Located 200 km west of Nhulunbuy, it's about a one-hour flight from Darwin. The region offers some of Australia's best fishing, with species like barramundi and coral trout. The island has a supermarket, healthcare clinic, police station, school, library, and council. Always check with locals before fishing to avoid restricted areas. About the role Join ALPA as a passionate, experienced, and enthusiastic retail management couple! If you have successfully managed large stores with complex orders and are skilled in merchandising and all aspects of running a retail store, we want you to be part of our team! What you'll do Lead the successful operation of a supermarket in a remote Indigenous community. Train and mentor local team members, making a real difference in their professional growth. Champion ALPA's nutrition policy, promoting healthy living. Replenish and monitor stock levels, ensuring the community always has what it needs. Collaborate with merchandising, nutrition, and local stakeholders to meet and exceed community needs. Skills and experience Minimum of three years’ retail management experience (mandatory). Experience using electronic retail systems for stock control, point of sale and staff management. Certificate III in Retail or an ability/willingness to obtain within the first 12 months. Strong interpersonal skills that can be adapted to meet the needs of people from all education levels, language abilities and cultures. Ability to manage the unique challenges of remote communities including limited resources, unpredictable supply chains and cultural considerations/sensitivities.
