Project Officer AO5 – Fisheries Queensland (Independent Onboard Monitoring Program) Cairns area with travel across coastal regions, including the Gulf of Carpentaria Full-time hours, Monday to Friday, 36.25 hours per week and may include travel and possibly weekend work as required Contract Term: Up to 12 months Pay: $66.86 Per Hour About the Role: Our client is seeking a dynamic and experienced Project Officer to join their Independent Onboard Monitoring (IOM) Team. This position plays a critical role in providing administrative support for the gillnet fishery (NX) IOM program, ensuring the efficient delivery of day-to-day operations and contributing to the enhancement of fishery monitoring systems. As the Project Officer, you will be responsible for managing communications, stakeholder engagement, and supporting the IOM team in achieving program goals. You will oversee camera system installations, manage data quality assurance, and coordinate a boat camera trial across Queensland’s gillnet fishing vessels. The role involves travel to coastal areas , including remote regions like the Gulf of Carpentaria, therefore the successful candidate must be able to travel away from home for several days at a time. Key Responsibilities: Manage the NX IOM program: Coordinate day-to-day delivery and ensure the program meets objectives. Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain communication with commercial fishing stakeholders, camera suppliers, and internal teams. Collaboration & Reporting: Work with the IOM Manager and Principal Project Officer to report on progress, priorities, and outcomes. Process & Documentation Management: Establish and maintain robust systems and documentation to support program delivery. Oversee Camera Footage Review: Ensure quality assurance processes are followed for the review of NX camera footage and commercial fishing logbooks. Provide Technical Support: Assist with the installation and maintenance of onboard camera equipment. Coordinate Boat Camera Trials: Lead the trial deployment of small boat cameras in gillnet fishing vessels. Data Quality Assurance: Ensure the integrity and security of data through collaboration with the Fisheries Queensland data team. Contract Management: Contribute to procurement, troubleshooting, warranty claims, and inventory management for camera systems. Security & Access Management: Ensure secure management of sensitive/protected information and web-based platforms. Network Security: Work with IT professionals to ensure project milestones are met and security protocols are followed. Collaboration with Technical Experts: Investigate and test hardware/software solutions to improve program operations. Highly Desirable: Experience with monitoring equipment. Previous experience working within Queensland’s commercial fisheries.
