Based in Herston, Brisbane and working in close collaboration with clinicians and other research institutes, QIMR Berghofer is home to more than 600 scientists, students and non-research staff. About the Brain and Mental Health Program: The QIMR Berghofer Brain and Mental Health research program comprises 12 research groups with over 130 staff and students, dedicated to advancing knowledge in brain and mental health. Building upon our strengths, we remain unwavering in our dedication to advancing genetic, molecular, cellular, physiological, circuitry, cognitive, behavioural, and psychosocial research in mental and neurological disorders. This includes common mental health challenges, such as anxiety disorders, depressive disorder, OCD, ADHD, autism, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, substance and behavioural addictions, schizophrenia, childhood maltreatment, youth self-harm, trauma, and suicide. Our research also tackles a broad range of neurological disorders like Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, motor neuron disease, epilepsy, cerebellar diseases (e.g., Friedreich ataxia and spinocerebellar ataxias), dementia (including Alzheimer’s disease and childhood dementia), and development in pre-term babies, all of which pose a growing health challenge in Australia. Our work shapes transformative healthcare solutions in Australia and beyond. We are seeking research leaders conducting high-quality brain and mental health research to expand the Program. Successful applicants will be expected to lead their own research projects as well as contributing to the Program through collaboration and committee involvement. What are we looking for? We are currently seeking to employ outstanding independent (mid-career to senior) researcher/s (Faculty) with a track record of success in publications and attracting externally competitive grant funding. We invite applications from all areas of Brain and Mental Health research including applicants who focus on discovery science, clinical translation, commercialisation, as well as research that is relevant to first nations and/or rural and remote communities. This can include eHealth/digital, economic, epidemiological, lifestyle medicine, psychedelic medicine, cellular, genomic, imaging, bioinformatic, neuroscience or pharmacological approaches.
