JOB PURPOSE: Manage accounts, finance, and payroll activities for the CATO Group and associated entities (currently CATO Location Services, StreetSTRONG, and CATO Film Pty Ltd), ensuring accurate, timely, and relevant financial information is provided to the Managing Director, Operations Manager, Senior Management team, ATO, and CATO Group Accountant. MAJOR TASKS: Active participation as part of the management team to improve overall business planning & operations. Manage and continually improve the quality and efficiency of finance and payroll systems, processes, and activities. Provide effective leadership and direction to the Finance and Payroll team to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of accounts and payroll services with a strong customer service focus. Ensure that all work undertaken complies with company policies, including conflict of interest, confidentiality and privacy, quality assurance, environmental management, and Health and Safety. Make recommendations to the Managing Director and Operations Manager on potential improvements and developments. Payroll: Manage and liaise with offshore staff for the approval of timesheet data for payment on Wednesdays. Ensure accurate award interpretation and remain up to date with legislative changes, including compliance with relevant employment laws and payroll regulations. Manage statutory requirements such as payroll tax, superannuation lodgement, and dealings with the ATO. Quarterly BAS statements, monthly IASs, monthly payroll tax, weekly superannuation, and other mandatory requirements in liaison with the Accountant. Ensure payments to CATO employees are made accurately and as per letters of appointment, awards, and legislative requirements. Ensure confidentiality when completing accounts and payroll duties and when speaking with employees. Prepare management reports when requested based on information relating to payroll and accounts. Develop annual budgets and periodic financial forecasts. Collaborate with the Managing Director and Operations Manager to assess financial risks, growth opportunities, and resource allocation. Prepare detailed management reports, including financial trend analysis, profitability analysis by business segment, and forecasting projections. Provide insights and recommendations to guide strategic and operational decisions. Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess financial health and operational performance. Identify and recommend opportunities for cost optimization and revenue growth. Accounts: Manage the processing of accounts payable and accounts receivable. Liaise with creditors, debtors, and potential clients as required. Weekly quotes/invoices reporting, including outstanding debtors. Preparation of monthly reporting pack, including P&L, Balance Sheet, and cash flow reports. Prepare and implement processes, timelines, and reporting for follow-up of outstanding debtors. Ensure high-quality invoicing and collection procedures to meet compliance requirements. SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Qualifications: Diploma of Accounting and/or Registered BAS Agent Experience: 5 years’ experience in managing accounts, finance, and payroll systems in a similar environment. 3 years’ experience in managing payroll processes and systems. Experience with Xero accounting software is a must. Experience with Employment Hero Payroll (Hero Pay) is an advantage. Proficiency and experience with preparation and lodgement of BAS. Proficiency and experience with preparation and lodgement of monthly and annual payroll tax reports with the Office of State Revenue. Proven ability to identify and implement improvements to streamline processes and increase efficiency and productivity within the organisation. Demonstrated experience in financial forecasting, budgeting, and strategic financial planning to support business growth. Experience managing finances across multiple entities or within a group structure. Skills: Engaging personality with a willingness and interest in building effective working relationships with colleagues and clients. Workload and time management. Meticulous attention to detail. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Able to work autonomously and in a team environment. Open-minded, flexible, and willing to take on responsibilities outside of accounts/financial/payroll. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Problem-solving. Ability to prioritise and manage expectations. Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights. Proven leadership in guiding financial strategy within a growing organisation. Experience with advanced financial modelling and forecasting tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Power BI, or similar software).
