Financial Auditor - Public Sector A leading Government organisation is currently seeking a highly skilled Financial Auditor to join their team and support external audits for public sector entities. This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated financial professional to apply their expertise while contributing to meaningful audits that impact the public sector. The role offers the chance to work independently and as part of a team, ensuring high-quality and efficient audit processes. Key Responsibilities: External Audits: Conduct detailed external audits of public sector entities' financial statements, either independently or as part of a collaborative audit team. Audit Planning & Execution: Plan and implement audit testing strategies, ensuring the most effective and efficient methods are used to gather the required assurance. Evaluation of Financial Statements: Assess financial misstatements and verify the accuracy of balances and disclosures, ensuring that they align with materiality thresholds. Issue Identification & Documentation: Identify, assess, and document key issues during the audit process. Provide clear and actionable recommendations for addressing any identified discrepancies or areas of concern. Client Relationships: Develop and maintain strong, professional working relationships with client staff at all levels. Foster open communication to ensure the smooth running of audit processes and discussions. Collaboration with Client Management: Present audit findings to client management, discussing any issues or concerns identified, and work together to achieve agreement on appropriate solutions. Documentation & Reporting: Ensure complete and accurate documentation of all audit procedures and findings. Maintain high standards of quality control in audit work and documentation. Compliance & Standards Adherence: Ensure that all audits are conducted in compliance with relevant accounting and auditing standards, with a focus on Australian regulations where applicable. Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the development and refinement of audit methodologies, ensuring best practices are consistently implemented. What the organisation is looking for: Educational Qualifications: A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Professional certification such as CA (Chartered Accountant) or CPA (Certified Public Accountant) is highly preferred. Experience: Strong knowledge and experience in accounting and auditing standards, with a preference for experience in the public sector. Familiarity with Australian accounting and auditing standards is an advantage. Skills & Competencies: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for liaising with clients and team members. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Ability to assess and evaluate complex financial information with attention to detail. Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
