First Nations Clean Energy and Climate Change Advisory Committee Co-Chairs and Committee Members The First Nations Clean Energy and Climate Change Advisory Committee (the committee) plays a vital role in advising the Minister and department on the First Nations rights and interests in Australia's energy transition and low-emissions future. The committee focuses on ensuring that First Nations peoples benefit equitably from the clean energy transformation, advocating for fair access to affordable and reliable energy. It emphasises the inclusion of cultural knowledge in shaping energy policies, fostering economic opportunities, and supporting workforce development and sustainable business initiatives within First Nations communities. Additionally, the committee collaborates with government and industry to maximise community benefits from clean energy projects, ensuring First Nations voices are central to Australia's energy transformation efforts. The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment, and Water (DCCEEW) invites Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples for part-time positions on the First Nations Clean Energy and Climate Change Advisory Committee. This includes positions for two Co-Chairs and up to five (5) committee members, commencing in the second quarter of 2025. Meetings and workload The First Nations Clean Energy and Climate Change Advisory Committee meets six (6) times per year with a combination of face-to-face and virtual meetings, for the committee to consider and develop advice for the minister and the department. Weekend and out-of-hours travel to enable attendance to meetings is likely. There is also an out of session workload for the Co-Chairs and members. Remuneration The remuneration for members is calculated in accordance with the relevant principal determination, the Remuneration Tribunal Determination (Remuneration and Allowances for Holders of Part-time Public Office) (as amended from time to time). Daily fees are calculated in accordance with the Remuneration Tribunal (Remuneration and Allowances for Holders of Part-time Public Office) Determination (as amended from time to time). The successful candidates will be appointed to this non-statutory position on a part-time basis for a period of 2 years. Applicants must be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples. Essential selection criteria for the Co-Chair and member positions The successful candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to: Provide expert advice on clean energy and climate change policies, strategies, and programs affecting First Nations communities. Identify opportunities to embed cultural knowledge and community engagement principles into decision-making processes. Collaborate with the department to identify opportunities for sustainable energy initiatives in First Nations communities. Represent the committee's collective insights and recommendations, ensuring alignment with broader strategic objectives. Build relationships, overcome conflict, and contribute to an agreed committee approach to provide advice to the minister and the department. Additional essential criteria for the Co-Chair positions In addition to the criteria listed above, the successful candidates must be able to demonstrate: The ability to lead meetings, facilitate consensus, and effectively liaise with departmental staff, senior executives, and the Minister. Strong leadership skills, experience at the highest levels of decision-making, and high-level strategic skills. Desirable skill set for Co-Chairs and member positions Applicants that meet the essential selection criteria will also be assessed against a skills matrix where the following elements will be considered: Expertise in incorporating First Nations rights and interests into Australia's energy transition and low-emissions future. Experience working with First Nations community organisations and business. Strong understanding of issues of concern to local communities, including First Nations rights and interests, and Native Title. Effective cross-cultural communication skills and the ability to communicate and negotiate effectively and respectfully. Background in social services, including health, education, employment, community development, research, or scholarship. Background in relevant technology, engineering, or science. Background in consumer or community advocacy and engagement. Strong understanding of government operations at the federal, cross-state/territory, or local level. Background in legal, governance, or regulation fields. Background in service delivery, town planning, and project management. The selection process will focus on achieving a balance of skills, experience, gender, and geographic representation across the advisory committee as a whole. #J-18808-Ljbffr
