First Nations Kinship Support Practitioner (Identified)Full-time Permanent Details: Children Youth and Families are looking for a First Nations Kinship Support Practitioner.Having regard to recommendations from the Our Booris, Our Way Report, the First Nations Kinship Support Practitioner will enable culturally safe, timely and meaningful access to support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Kinship Carers. The role will promote positive outcomes for children and young people in kinship care, via a mix of practical and emotional support, education, advocacy, and systems navigation.The First Nations Kinship Support Practitioner will be pivotal in frontloading support for new placements, building and maintaining relationships with community partners, and will support culturally safe, transparent, and strengths-based practice within the Kinship Team. Eligibility/Other Requirements: Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social Welfare, Social Science, or related discipline. Please note: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who do not have these qualifications but who have appropriate and relevant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural heritage and experience are eligible to apply. CYPP 3 must have at least two (2) years of practical experience working with children, young people, and/or their families in a social work/case management role. This position requires a Working with Vulnerable People Check. Prior to commencing in this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 will be required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable people registrations, refer to Access Canberra. Prior to commencement, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police Check. Experience and/or a desire to work in a community services environment is essential. Driver’s license (C class) is essential. Notes: This is an Identified position in accordance with Section 27(4) of the Public Sector Management Act 1994 and is only open to an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander lived experience and cultural capability is considered essential and therefore confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage may be requested. A merit pool or merit list may be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months. As this role is likely to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and young people, cultural awareness and the capacity to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is highly desirable.
