Our client is in an exciting build phase and seeks a dynamic, relational General Manager from the metals industry to take it to a new level in commercial and operational expansion. A division of a multidisciplinary construction entity, you will receive corporate head office support allowing you to focus on what matters in the general management of the company; achieving corporate directives, growth through successful delivery of steel, structural steel and other metals components for internal and external client demand, addressing equipment and the workshop while managing people and processes to optimise efficiency and ensure a safe and healthy workplace. As a key management team member of a growing organisation you will be able to flex and adapt as necessary according to business needs, project deliverables and other contingencies. Reporting to the COO you will: Represent the company in external forums, peak bodies and industry groups. Build relationships with prospective clients who are growing their office/site footprint or those who are refurbishing or addressing fitout works or engaging with construction contractors who do such works. Oversee and sign-off on tenders/proposals for projects. Oversee the operation, ensuring materials are sourced, resources and equipment are in place and that workshop jobs are effectively planned to meet client demand. Ensure standards of Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental are attained, whether to client, regulatory or to national/international standards and workers’ health and wellbeing is addressed. While financial support is provided from the group, be responsible for growing revenue and ensuring prudent investment in capex and that operational expenditure is according to industry norms. Expand the workshop, equipment and facilities and staff as the business grows. Ideal candidates bring: Experience as a Manager who has grown a business or business unit commercially. An ease in public forums and demonstrated ability to uncover opportunities from conversations leading to business conversion. Aware of the project/tendering framework for metals, steelworks in the construction landscape. Exposure to metals manufacturing and knowledge of industry trends and best practice. Ideally a fabrication/welding background (Ideal but not essential). A growth mindset, able to understand the priorities of the day and responding to changes as different business factors present. A forward-thinking individual who looks at future opportunities and what can be achieved while working on improving current operations. If this sounds like you, let us know!
