You will be responsible for designing and developing advanced quantum sensing hardware. You will be pivotal to establishing and growing the team to build DeteQt’s first prototype and beyond. We are seeking an experienced and innovative Hardware/Systems Engineer to join our team specialising in quantum sensing technology, specifically in magnetometry utilizing nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centres in diamond and integrated CMOS chip manufacturing. Key Responsibilities Note: being at an early stage, the role will be versatile and have touch points across a broad range of technical disciplines and highly influenced by the candidate's skill-set. R&D capability establishment: Lead the establishment of the laboratory, set up equipment, identify/source new equipment needs, familiarise yourself with and re-establish the laboratory demonstrator. Prototyping and Development: Based on DeteQt’s demonstrator, design and build the first-generation quantum magnetometry product prototype including: overall system design/architecture, component selection and testing, optical/electronic/software integration and other aspects determined in due course and as applicable. Design and Testing: Conduct design reviews, simulations, and experimental tests for system components, including sensor arrays, control electronics, and integration systems. Electronics and Photonics: Develop and optimise electronic circuits and photonic components; develop a roadmap to productise the current first proof-of-concept system. Work closely with partners and team members to ensure efficient integration within CMOS architectures. Software Integration: Work closely with, and lead as required, software development for quantum magnetometry control systems. Use the most appropriate programming languages such as Python and C++ to implement data acquisition protocols and processing algorithms. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive documentation of design processes, test results, and project milestones. Develop an initial target specification of the prototype device and benchmark with existing competing technologies for use in customer demonstrations and market business development activities. Prepare and present findings to the CEO and other stakeholders. Next generation: Participate and lead some aspects of the development of the next-generation system. Continuous Improvement: Stay informed about advancements in quantum sensing technology and integrated chip manufacturing. Identify areas for innovation and process enhancement to drive the team’s success. Qualifications Education: Degree (Bachelors or PhD) in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field. Experience: 5+ years of relevant experience in hardware development, with a proven track record in prototyping, hardware and firmware development. Technical Skills: System design engineering. Proficiency in some or all of electronics, photonics, opto-mechanical, embedded systems, FPGA, and experience using CAD tools and circuit simulation software. Familiarity with CMOS chip design and fabrication processes and characterisation techniques. Experience with programming languages such as Python, C++, or similar for hardware control and data analysis. Soft Skills: Strong project management. Excellent problem-solving abilities. Excellent communication skills. Strong team player with the proven ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a multidisciplinary team. Ability to work in ambiguous and quickly changing environments. Desirable skills: Strong background in quantum technology research and development, specifically regarding NV centres and magnetometry principles. Experience in fabrication and characterisation of quantum systems. What does success in this role look like? Successful completion of the first-generation quantum magnetometry product prototype for demonstration with customers and partners (target:2025). Extensive contribution to the development of the overall technology roadmap. Creating the technology foundations to enable growth and development of future generations of product. Becoming an integral member of the DeteQt team with a leadership trajectory. Why Join Us? Rare opportunity to join a funded startup: We have global ambitions and are just at the beginning. Values-led team: We aim to put the needs of our emerging team at the top of the priority list, and will be designing the culture, cadences, and development opportunities to support this. Impactful Work: Contribute to groundbreaking projects that have the potential to revolutionize sensing technologies and applications. If you are a driven engineer ready to tackle the challenges of quantum magnetometry hardware development and lead a talented team, we encourage you to apply. We are an equal-opportunity employer and welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds and experiences. To Apply Please submit your resume and a cover letter detailing your relevant experience to About DeteQt DeteQt has developed a solid-state quantum magnetometer that combines chip-scale manufacturability, high-sensitivity and low size/weight/power. The sensor exploits the quantum properties of synthetic diamond with an integrated CMOS control chip to measure magnetic field vectors, crucial for magnetic navigation, anomaly detection, subterranean imaging and medical diagnostics. #J-18808-Ljbffr
