Job Description

We have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a driven and committed individual to join our passionate team and pioneer English Language at Contour Education for 2025 and onwards! Who We Are We empower students and their studies by providing an ecosystem of highly effective tutoring, resources and support. We run weekly small-group tutoring sessions, presented by young and experienced tutors that teach in a simple, intuitive and engaging way. We also supplement these sessions with weekly workshops, complimentary 1-on-1 support and a learning portal with a comprehensive suite of resources and practice material to help students master their subjects. Over 6,000 students and 150+ team members have joined Contour since our founding in the beginning of 2020. Our growth is a testament to our dedication in providing ALL our students and parents with a premium learning experience (from 24/7 personal support to on-demand resources) and our commitment to helping them achieve their personal goals, and achieve success in their school assessments and exams. We've been listed three years in a row as one of the Fastest Growing Startups by the Australian Financial Review, and we're continuing to multiply year over year! It's our vision to reshape education , starting with tutoring. The Role We have an opening for a Head of English Language, who will be responsible for developing and leading a comprehensive tutoring program for VCE English Language. This course will be designed alongside our veteran content development team, to prepare for expansion in 2025, and will aim to help English Language students not only love English Language, but also improve their grades at school and encourage them to pursue English-related careers in the future. You will also be the face of English Language at Contour and will teach a significant amount of students throughout 2025, in weekly small-group classes, digging deep into the intuition behind the English Language and providing students an engaging platform to learn and love the subject. This role is designed for someone who can commit to working regular hours, on a part-time basis, as a lot of time and energy will go into developing the course, tutoring many students in group classes, and then growing the program in 2025 and beyond. Our team of tutors are incredibly hard-working, and we anticipate our program to become one of our significant offerings if we find someone willing to take on the challenge! This role is in alignment with our current growth and development. Since 2020 we now have 6,000+ students and 150+ team members! Our (ambitious, we'll admit) goal is to implement and witness significant growth, in incorporating this program, by the end of 2026 (next year!). We will be investing heavily into the program, this role, and the team to help facilitate this exponential growth. This role is not for someone wanting to tutor or head the subject only for 1-2 years max, as we are looking for someone with the willingness and capacity to commit long-term and use their passion to create wide-spread impact in the education space. This role is also much more than just your typical 9 to 5; it’s a significant commitment, and we're looking for a dedicated leader who is ready to embrace this journey fully - we want you to realise and understand that the growth potential in this role (both financially, and the impact you'll have) is - for all practical purposes - endless! Key Responsibilities Subject Leadership & Strategy : Develop and oversee strategies to enhance instructional quality and align with Contour's educational standards. Data-Driven Improvement : Implement feedback from students, parents, and tutors to continuously enhance tutoring approaches, fostering student engagement and academic success. Tutoring Team Leadership : Mentor and support Tutoring Team Leaders to build high-performing teams, ensuring teaching quality, curriculum adherence, and positive student engagement. Performance Management : Conduct regular check-ins, reviews, and coaching sessions to provide feedback and identify development areas for Tutoring Team Leaders. Curriculum Consistency : Ensure subject materials are accurate, up-to-date, and aligned with curriculum standards. Oversee the creation and distribution of quality resources. Student Outcomes : Set academic goals, monitor progress, and adapt tutoring strategies to meet objectives. Work with leaders to address challenges and ensure students stay on track. Stakeholder Engagement : Maintain open communication with students, parents, and tutors to promote a supportive learning environment. Process Improvement : Identify and implement opportunities to enhance tutoring practices, improving efficiency and effectiveness through data-driven insights. Collaboration : Work with relevant colleagues to ensure consistency in staff training & management. Strategic Initiatives : Contribute to cross-functional projects, supporting Contour’s goals with insights and active participation in organisation-wide initiatives. Opportunity to Tutor Groups Have you ever wanted to do group tutoring but never got the time or students to? Maybe you’ve been doing one-on-one tutoring so far, and now you want to explore group tutoring? As the Head of English Language at Contour, rather than tutoring one student at a time, you can now motivate groups of students with your knowledge and experience, without the hassle of more admin work or of finding students and parents. You'll also have a piece in the subjects, so you'll be rewarded as the program grows! Develop the Highest-Quality Tutoring Material You’ve probably spent hundreds of unpaid hours making tutoring resources for your students. We know it can be an extremely time-consuming process, and arguably one of the more boring and tedious parts of being a tutor. But that’s where we come in! We’ve spent thousands of hours creating resources and detailed notes for our subject offerings and have a full-time graphics, formatting and proofreading team who will help you along the way. Imagine crafting the best, most engaging English Language courses in Victoria. We'll help you turn your ideas and dreams into reality! Competitive Pay and Compensation We pride ourselves on compensating and rewarding our tutors for their hard work. Our head tutors receive a base salary for the hours they tutor and also have a piece in the subject (meaning they receive a share of the gross profit generated by the subject) . Our Head tutors can (and have) made annual 6-figure salaries working full-time hours (both tutoring & content development) with our arrangement, creating a healthy win-win situation for both us and the tutors! In this role, your effective annual earnings can easily exceed the advertised $120,000 p.a, as the programs reach scale. However, keep in mind, this all depends on you giving your best, because if you do a poor job, then there won't be any students left to tutor :( Support & Career Growth Opportunities Working in a collaborative environment and an energetic team can be a fantastic opportunity to hone your skills and learn so much along the way! When you work with us, you’ll also have the chance to learn from tutors who have spent thousands of hours tutoring and have garnered years of experience, perfecting their craft. While our team is extremely driven and hard-working, everyone is easy to get along with and there are frequent paid-for dinners/lunches for you to get to meet and vibe with everyone. We know this role can seem daunting due to the high expectations (not to mention our ambitious goals), but we'll make sure you're properly trained and prepared upon joining, and we'll provide you with personal feedback and support to settle in. Because this is an exclusive role, you'll have access to further career opportunities as the company grows, such as leading a team of English Language tutors and content writers.
