Position Title: High Risk Safety OfficerLocation: Maitland, South AustraliaEmployment Type: Full-timePay Rate: $79,000 - $93,000 + Super + VehicleRelocation: Considered for the right applicant A local government in Maitland, South Australia, is seeking a dedicated High Risk Safety Officer to play a vital role in advancing the Council’s Work Health and Safety (WHS) Management System. This role involves actively maintaining, monitoring, and promoting WHS principles across the organisation. The successful candidate will work closely with Managers, Supervisors, and Leading Workers to ensure compliance with WHS obligations and help drive a strong safety culture. Key Responsibilities and Outcomes: Collaborate with the Team Leader Risk and Safety, Safety and Wellbeing Officer, and Clerical Officer to implement WHS legislative requirements. Assist in developing and reviewing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Verification of Competency assessment processes. Support management and staff in fulfilling their WHS responsibilities, including conducting risk assessments, audits, and developing Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), Safe Work Instructions (SWI), and Job Safety Analyses (JSA). Provide training and guidance on Council’s WHS-controlled documents to workers. Lead the management of chemicals, including monitoring ChemAlert, chemical stock levels, and ensuring Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are up to date through annual audits. Experience and Qualifications: Tertiary qualification (Certificate or Diploma) in WHS or a relevant field, or equivalent workplace WHS experience. Proven experience in workplace safety and risk management. Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, policies, and safe work systems. Experience with computer-based word processing, database management, and spreadsheet applications for reporting and documentation.
