The Hire Centre Manager within our esteemed lifting company plays a crucial and multifaceted role in overseeing the coordination and technical operations within the hire centre. This position requires a strong mechanical aptitude, meticulous attention to detail, strategic planning, and strong leadership skills to ensure the efficient maintenance of equipment, strict adherence to LGH policies and regulatory standards, and the fostering of a culture centred on safety and continuous improvement. The Hire Centre Manager serves as a linchpin in driving operational excellence and upholding the company's unwavering commitment to delivering superior service. Responsibilities Supervision and Technical Support: Supervise, mentor, and provide expert technical guidance to hire centre colleagues, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment. Organise and optimise work schedules to ensure efficient workflow and resource allocation. Proactively manage personnel including recruitment, training, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, and career development initiatives. Stay informed of industry developments, technological advancements, and best practices to enhance team technical proficiency. Act as the primary point of escalation for cross-team queries, providing timely and effective resolutions to ensure seamless operations. Equipment Availability: Develop and maintain comprehensive records of maintenance activities, inspections, and certifications for the hire fleet. Assist with troubleshooting machinery problems and correct operation deviations as needed. Spot deviations from product quality standards and direct immediate corrective action. Implement robust inventory management practices to ensure adequate stock levels of spare parts and consumables. Meet repair and availability departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) by accurately forecasting and ordering parts, minimising downtime, and maximising equipment availability. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to all regulatory standards and maintain documentation to demonstrate compliance. Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as necessary. Safety Focus: Cultivate a safety-first culture within the workshop, emphasising the importance of hazard identification, risk assessment, and adherence to safety protocols. Implement and monitor safe systems of work, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe equipment operation practices. Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure the provision of secure equipment to all customers, minimising the risk of accidents and injuries. Effective Communication: Foster open and transparent communication within the team and across departments to facilitate seamless collaboration and information sharing. Liaise closely with the hire desk and sales teams to understand customer requirements and ensure timely fulfilment of orders and service requests. Representation and Reporting: Represent the Workshop team at periodic operational Company meetings, providing updates on performance, challenges, and opportunities for improvement. Analyse and interpret departmental KPIs, including monthly financial performance related to spares and consumable expenditure, to identify trends and drive strategic decision-making. Perform opening and closing duties on a daily basis and ensure centre is available for use. Organise the layout of the hire centre to maximize efficiency. Maintain the physical condition of hire centre and coordinate any necessary work orders for repairs or maintenance. Direct salvage of damaged or used material. Additional Responsibilities: Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade and nature of this position, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability to meet evolving business needs. Qualifications and Experience The successful candidate must provide (at LGH’s cost) a valid national police certificate showing no recorded convictions. The successful candidate must possess a full driving license and provide (at LGH’s cost) a driving record noting no loss or suspension of drivers’ licence (for example, drink-driving bans). Previous supervisory experience. Holds a Medium Rigid (MR) licence. Holds a forklift licence. Must be able to push/pull and carry/lift up to 25kg. Strong mechanical aptitude. Flexibility in working hours, including early starts and late finishes, to accommodate operational requirements. Willingness to travel occasionally, as required. Proven experience in a customer-facing role, with a track record of delivering exceptional service. Demonstrated experience in People Management, including recruitment, training, and performance management. Strong IT skills, including comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications. Work Authorisation The successful candidate must be an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident, or a person holding a visa which allows the visa holder to be employed in a full-time position in Australia. Positive and determined approach to researching and analysing new and better ways of doing things, with a commitment to continuous improvement. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly and concisely. Strong client management skills, with a focus on building and maintaining long-term relationships. Self-motivated with the capability to work independently and take initiative in problem-solving. Ability to plan and prioritize effectively under pressure, managing competing demands and deadlines. Willingness to collaborate with colleagues to support team objectives.
