About the Royal College of Pathologists Australasia The Royal College of Pathologists Australasia (RCPA) is the leading organisation representing pathologists and senior scientists in Australasia. Pathology involves the study of the causes of disease. Pathologists are specialist medical doctors involved in the diagnosis and monitoring of almost all acute and chronic illnesses. The RCPA was established in 1956 and has been responsible for the training and professional development of pathologists since that time. We also provide training programs for senior scientists working in pathology. RCPA has around 4500 members practising in private and public pathology sectors across Australasia, including Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia. The College is also responsible for the promotion of the science and practice of pathology. The RCPA is a not-for-profit organisation governed by a Board of Directors. It comprises some 50 staff members and is located in the heritage-listed Durham Hall in Surry Hills, Sydney, NSW. About the role The IT Operations Lead is responsible for leading the design, implementation, and management of the organisation’s IT operations and infrastructure. This role ensures the availability, scalability, and security of IT infrastructure to support business objectives while driving operational excellence and innovation. Additionally, the Lead collaborates with the CIO to develop and implement strategic plans for IT infrastructure and operations, ensuring alignment with organisational goals. By aligning technology strategies with organisational objectives, the lead plays a pivotal role in enabling seamless business operations, fostering a high-performing IT team, and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. Acting as a technical expert and escalation point, the lead ensures adherence to ITIL standards for incident, problem, and change management. Key Responsibilities Oversee IT infrastructure, service desk, security and operations, ensuring scalability, reliability, and security across networks, cloud services, and end-user devices. Drive continuous improvement, system modernization, and performance optimization. Implement robust cybersecurity measures, conduct risk assessments, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Develop, test, and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans. Act as a technical lead and escalation point, providing guidance on complex IT issues. Manage vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, and oversee IT budgets to optimize costs. Ensure high system uptime and proactively address potential disruptions. Project manage IT initiatives from planning to implementation. Partner with business units to identify and deliver IT solutions that enhance operational efficiency. Lead and mentor a small team or work independently, coordinating with external vendors as necessary. Stay updated on emerging technologies and recommend solutions to maintain a competitive edge. What We’re Looking For: Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, IT, or related field. 5+ years of IT infrastructure & operations experience. 2+ years of stakeholder engagement and internal consulting. 1+ year in a leadership role, with the ability to inspire and develop a team. Proven experience delivering ICT solutions in large, geographically dispersed organizations. Strong expertise in networks, servers, virtualization, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and enterprise storage. Ability to develop and implement ICT strategies aligned with business goals. Stakeholder management skills to drive collaboration and oversee cross-functional initiatives. Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting capabilities. Relevant certifications (e.g., ITIL, CISSP, Azure Architect, AWS Solutions Architect). Experience with AI and emerging technologies. Strong financial management for technology services. Willingness to undertake further training as needed. Flexibility to work outside standard hours when required.
