The Role We are currently seeking an International Freight Specialist with experience in partnering with global freight providers and customers to ensure a smooth transit of goods across a variety of trade lanes. The successful candidate will join our team in Perth, Australia, and will be responsible for managing in-transit freight escalations as well as ensuring that our shipments meet international import compliance requirements. Responsibilities:What We Expect Effectively communicate closely with freight providers and proactively address any potential issues or delays. Escalate when critical goods in transit are experiencing delays. Identify alternative routes and shipping methods to avoid delays and minimise total costs. Proactively communicate with freight providers for contingencies and advise internal stakeholders (locally and internationally). This may require occasionally working outside of regular office hours. Set delivery expectations with internal stakeholders and proactively anticipate customer needs by closely tracking critical shipments. Handle customer inquiries (internal stakeholders) with a sense of urgency and empathy. Build strong working relationships with freight providers with a win-win approach. Assess supply/service risk to the continuous movement of the Supply Chain and work to identify risk mitigation solutions in collaboration with internal stakeholders. Process freight and duty invoices for payment in line with contracted rate agreements. Ensure invoice accuracy and work with the Manager/Analyst to settle invoice exceptions via cost research, comparing quoted rates to invoiced and tariff rates. Verify duties paid are in line with the import tariffs expected. Maintain data bases with correct freight prices and tariff codes. Coordinate freight related queries with various departments such as accounts payable and accounts receivable. Identify areas for improvement and work with management to implement changes. Assist the warehouse team with export shipping queries and general inventory management. Qualifications:What We Are Looking For Formal tertiary qualifications in supply chain, logistics or related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered. Minimum 5 years of previous experience in partnering with third party logistics (3PL) providers, freight providers and vendors. Strong analytical problem-solving skills Agile and proactive thinker that has demonstrated capability to anticipate challenges which may impact supply chain. Strong communication skills to clearly scope service requirements for providers whilst also building strong supplier partnerships. Financial acumen to assess freight options and provide their recommendation to the business depending on the requirements. High level of attention to detail, prioritization, and multi-tasking skills. Strong geographical skills and a strong understanding of international freight transport networks. Experience operating a commodity import/export customs process would be an advantage. Ability to maintain data accuracy for KPI reporting. Highly proficient in the use of Excel, ERP systems and freight related platforms. Experience with Qlik Sense or Power BI desirable. Good negotiation skills. Strong team player skills and ability to work with different cultures. Results-oriented.
