Academic Advisors form part of our Learning Assistant team, working cooperatively with Teachers, to seek to maximise the learning outcomes for students. By focusing on student academic development, in individual sessions, the Learning Assistant – Academic Advisor works with students to develop self-regulated learning, self-efficacy, and generalist skills for study, learning and assessment, regardless of the mode or platform of delivery. An extension to the closing date may also be applied, at the College's discretion. Casual hours: the program is based on student-demand, for individualised coaching sessions. Working as part of a team: our Learning Assistant – Academic Advisors work from the teachers’ programs and plans to develop individualised frameworks for students. Duties include but are not limited to: Using judgement and discretion to work cooperatively with teachers, liaising with other internal stakeholders and being self-directed to support teaching and learning at the College. Applying a range of technical teaching and learning concepts to build within students the ability to be self-directed, self-regulated and accountable learners. Sensitively monitoring and assessing students to assist with identifying modifications necessary to meet the learning needs of specific students. Being sensitive to the needs and cultural differences of students by applying discretion and judgement to planning and implementing engaging tutorial sessions. Coaching students to work on learning dispositions, by pre-teaching or revisiting concepts. Monitoring student progress and supporting the Student Code of Conduct, with guidance from the Director of Educational Programs. Contributing to planning meetings, faculty meetings, parent meetings, and whole-of-College meetings as scheduled. Attending face-to-face, email, and telephone interactions with students, parents, and team members. Providing administrative support with documentation, photocopying, and laminating as required for session preparation. Supporting an online learning environment by being familiar with subject content on the Learning Management System and developing relevant resources. Supporting students to focus on their academic development and outcomes (e.g., developing study plans, formulating individual goals, and monitoring progress). Minimum Qualifications: Certificate III or Certificate IV in School Based Education Support or equivalent qualifications and experience deemed necessary by the school. Demonstrated ability to work with online learning environments and school databases. Relevant experience and knowledge in applying teachers’ programs and plans. Ability to develop positive, empathetic, collaborative relationships with colleagues and students. Mandatory Clearances/Certifications: Blue Card, in accordance with ‘No Card, No Start law’, as per the Working with Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000. Other Requirements: Carry out other duties as required by the Principal. Demonstrate, follow, and support the policies and procedures of the College. Maintain flexibility in working hours as required for the position. Accept that the College reserves the right to modify the position to meet its operating needs.
