In this position, you will engage in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and curriculum development. You will have a developed research program and conduct high-quality research, along with supervising Higher Degree by Research (PhD and MPhil), postgraduate coursework, and Honours students. You will be expected to perform administrative, outreach, and other citizenship and service activities. We are offering Teaching and Research academic positions at Level B or C (dependent on candidate suitability). Key Responsibilities Academic Level B - Lecturer Teaching: In various settings, including fieldwork and practicals, while contributing to innovative curriculum design, online learning, and alternative teaching methods. Coordinate courses, deliver lectures and tutorials, design assessment, and undertake marking. Develop and enhance course materials to ensure engaging, relevant, and contemporary content. Collaborate within teaching teams, engage in educational development, and share best teaching practices. Maintain course quality through evaluations to meet industry and educational standards. Provide academic support, guidance to students and follow university teaching policies. Research: Develop independent or team-based research in chemical engineering or a related field to achieve national recognition and impact. Maintain a strong publication record in high-quality journals, conferences, and refereed publications. Seek, secure, and manage external research funding, contribute to knowledge transfer and industry engagement. Enhance the School’s research profile through collaborations and partnerships. Uphold responsible research conduct, ensure safe laboratory practices, and apply best-practice methodologies. Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise Honours, Coursework Masters, Higher Degree by Research, and vacation scholars. Support supervisee development through coaching, feedback, training, and regular performance appraisals. Promote best practices in occupational health, safety, and wellbeing. Address conflicts and grievances promptly, ensuring a positive and supportive work environment. Citizenship and Service: Demonstrate behaviours aligned with UQ values while actively contributing to the School’s vibrant and collegiate culture. Provide leadership through mentoring, collaboration, and a commitment to staff wellbeing. Manage internal service roles and serve on committees. Build strong partnerships with colleagues, industry, government, and professional bodies. Undertake administrative functions as required. Additional Responsibilities at Academic Level C – Senior Lecturer Teaching: Develop innovative curriculum design, including online learning and alternative methods. Foster education collaborations, advance teaching practices, and contribute original materials in chemical engineering. Oversee programs, courses, and student cohorts. Research: Lead independent and/or team research in chemical engineering with national and growing international impact. Produce high-quality research, publish in top journals, relevant refereed publications, and secure significant external funding. Drive research influencing policy and practice. Foster strategic collaborations at university, national, and international levels. Demonstrate leadership in responsible research conduct, safety, and best practices. Supervision and Researcher Development: Act as Principal Supervisor to Higher Degree by Research students and engage in supervision of Coursework Masters and Honours students. Effectively lead and develop employee performance and professional development. Demonstrate personal effectiveness in supervision and management and development of researcher capability and skill. Lead others in best practice occupational health and safety. Citizenship and Service: Demonstrate leadership in internal service, collaboration, and decision-making. Establish a track record of collaboration in relation to external service activities and engagement, including opportunities that raise the profile of research and educational excellence at UQ. Advance external links and partnerships by collaborating on external activities and sustain relationships with industry, government departments, professional bodies, and the wider community. About You Academic Level B, Lecturer: Completed undergraduate and postgraduate (PhD) degrees in chemical engineering. Growing profile in chemical engineering teaching and research. Developing national recognition in a field of research relevant to chemical engineering. Track record of publications, conference presentations, and securing research funding. Proven excellence in teaching across various settings and levels. Experience in course coordination, curriculum development, and innovation. Strong supervision, service contributions, and collaborative skills. Experience engaging with industry is highly regarded. RPEQ registration (or willingness to register) is highly regarded. Additional for Academic Level C, Senior Lecturer: You will have an established profile in chemical engineering teaching and/or research. Established profile in research, with national recognition and developing international impact in a field relevant to chemical engineering. Proven track record of securing and managing external research funding and publishing in reputable journals and conferences. Extensive teaching experience and excellence across undergraduate, honours, and postgraduate levels, with expertise in course coordination and curriculum innovation. Strong supervision record of Honours and Research Higher Degree students, alongside meaningful contributions to internal service and external activities.
