About the team The Public Law & Planning Branch understands Victorian public law in a way that is unrivalled by its competitors. The branch consists of three legal teams, including the Land Acquisition, Planning and Environment team whose practice spans advice and litigation. The advice the team provides includes advice on the application, interpretation and development of legislation and other instruments, principally in the team's subject areas. Its litigation focuses primarily on judicial and merits review of decision making in its subject areas, and contested land compensation and valuation matters. The team's subject areas include: Planning and built heritage; Environment and climate change; Land acquisition and compensation; Major projects, project powers and project delivery; Aboriginal cultural heritage; Forestry, water and other resources; and Emergency management. About the role Reporting to Lead Counsel, due to an internal promotion, an exciting opportunity has become available for a Legal Project & Practice Coordinator to support a team of solicitors that provide legal services and advice to government clients. The day-to-day responsibilities of this role would include: Assist Lead Counsel and other solicitors as required with compulsory acquisition work for major Victorian Government projects Have primary responsibility for project management, managing statutory deadlines and tracking matter deliverables Monitor and report on the progress of matters to clients Prepare and draft notices, forms, letters and settlement deeds Assist in the preparation of tender processes and fee proposals Manage budgets, estimates and billing Coordinating other legal reports including cross-government reporting Exposure to work in other areas of our practice is possible, if this is of interest and can be managed on top of core tasks associated with the Legal Project & Practice Coordinator role. Skills and experience Prior experience in project coordination and advanced administrative skills Demonstrated experience and knowledge of the systems and processes required to support a legal practice (e.g. billing, file management, client reporting) Superior time management skills and ability to problem solve under pressure and adapt to changing timelines Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to use initiative and make process improvements Degree level qualification in law or strong knowledge of legal practice, would be desirable A knowledge and understanding of the machinery of government is desirable A knowledge and understanding of compulsory acquisition processes and property settlements would be desirable VGSO offers an inclusive, collegiate and collaborative work environment where you will be well-supported and mentored to develop your knowledge.
