About the role The role of Managing Principal Solicitor is a leadership role in the Commercial Law team, which sits within the Legal and Legislation Branch. Our role is to provide high quality legal and legislative advice and services on a broad range of matters across the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions. There is always a great variety of interesting work. The Department covers a diverse range of portfolios, including: Jobs and Industry Tourism, Sport and Major Events Economic Growth Skills and TAFE Medical Research Small Business Regional Development Employment The types of legal issues you will deal with are predominantly commercial and contractual matters, and issues arising from the administration of portfolio legislation. You will advise a diverse client group including regional staff, policy officers and decision makers. As a member of the Branch you will have the opportunity to do meaningful work that benefits all Victorians. About you We welcome applications from commercial lawyers with in-house, government or private practice experience. To succeed in the role, you will need: Extensive experience in negotiation and drafting a wide range of complex legal documentation particularly in the commercial context. Demonstrated ability to provide strategic and authoritative advice on complex legal, legislative and policy issues under tight timeframes. Ability to liaise effectively and work collaboratively with key stakeholders and to provide advice to the senior executive and Ministers under tight timelines with competing priorities. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and in a team environment. Demonstrated leadership ability including modelling organisational values and managing a team of solicitors and their workload.
