About the Role Avant is committed to making a difference in the quality, safety and professionalism of medical practice. Avant has more Australian doctor members than any other medical membership group and has access to significant amount of claims data and medico-legal knowledge which is utilised to support our education and advocacy efforts. Avant strives to educate doctors to reduce their medico-legal risk and improve patient safety and quality in medicine. Avant has an established advocacy function which seeks to influence legal and regulatory systems to improve outcomes for doctors and patients, advocating in the best interest of Avant’s members and the Australian health care system for safer patient outcomes, the general wellbeing of doctors and the effective operation of the medical indemnity and registration environments. To achieve these goals, we seek to effectively and consistently deliver relevant evidence-based information to the medical community. The role is responsible for: Providing advice and support to the Chief Medical Officer particularly with regard to clinical and systems advice to senior executives. Providing medical input into Avant’s research, education and advocacy agendas. Providing advice and support to the research team to support research activities. Contributing to the development of high quality education content both in writing and in presentations. The role requires extensive understanding and experience of the medico-legal landscape in Australia, the ability to write and deliver medico-legal content at an advanced level, advanced stakeholder relationship and influence management skills, commercial sensibility, and enthusiasm to drive an educational agenda that can really make a difference. The principle purposes of the position are to: Support the CMO in being an adviser to the CEO and other senior executives on clinical and medical systems matters. Contribute to the development of medico-legal and professionalism skills development content for a range of audiences and craft groups. Support Avant’s research activities and utilise the outcomes in educational content and advocacy positions. Work with legal and education experts to ensure educational content is relevant and appropriate for medical practitioners. Proactively consider and be a thought leader on new risks that impact our members. Key responsibilities include: Working effectively with the CMO to support the CEO and other key stakeholders. Providing medical input into the Avant educational agenda. Contributing to the development of accurate and useful medico-legal education. Be prepared to travel to deliver presentations. Work with a team of highly qualified individuals. Foster and engage external partnerships to maximize leverage of our resources, broaden the reach of our impact, improve the quality of our educational activity and strengthen Avant’s brand. Building Avant’s profile as a thought leader to strengthen medico-legal quality, safety, and professionalism. To be successful you will have: Tertiary qualifications in medicine. Postgraduate qualification in medical specialty. High-level written and oral communication skills. Self-drive, determination and enthusiasm. Ability to work collaboratively and engage at organisational level. Vision in how education can make a difference. Ability to deliver results in a practical commercial context.
