Medical Scientist Grade 1 - Microbiology The Royal Children’s Hospital’s (RCH) Vision is “A world where all kids thrive”. About the Role: This is a full-time position within the Molecular Microbiology Laboratory. The laboratory currently operates 0830-1730 Monday to Friday and 0830-1530 on Saturday and public holidays. You are responsible for performing routine diagnostic microbiological testing. Duties may include rotating roster covering all shifts including public holidays and on call. What You'll Achieve: Perform routine and specialised microbiological diagnostic tests, including validation and reporting Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting on instrumentation Attend, participate in and successfully complete training provided by the department and the hospital Ensure all duties are carried out according to standard operating procedures and laboratory policies Work in a team environment with respect for other members of the team to achieve service goals Your Skills and Experience: Hold a Bachelor of Applied Science or Bachelor of Science or equivalent, where equivalent includes a degree awarded by an overseas tertiary institution which is recognised by the Federal Department of Education and Training Qualify for professional scientist membership of Australian Institute of Medical Scientists or the Australian Society for Microbiology Major in Molecular Microbiology is desirable Experience in a clinical microbiology laboratory is advantageous and in particular in paediatric and or obstetrics/gynecology About the Department: The Microbiology Laboratories, within the Department of Laboratory Services, provide comprehensive, high quality diagnostic microbiological services to both the Royal Children's and the Royal Women's Hospital. The Microbiology Laboratories consist of bacteriology, serology and molecular microbiology employing more than 40 staff.
