The Melbourne Zoo veterinary department is seeking a visionary leader to support the Veterinary team and the Marine Response Unit. Work with the Senior Veterinarian, Vet Hospital Supervisor and Marine Response Unit Strategic Project Coordinator to provide unparalleled care to over 3500 collection animals and wildlife. Your colleagues are experts in their field and collectively possess hundreds of years of experience in the medical care and management of wildlife. As a member of the MZ Senior Leadership Team you will also be responsible for contributing to the strategic development and vision for Melbourne Zoo into the future. Role: Life Science Manager - Animal Health Contract: Permanent Salary: Band 6, starting from $111,059 per annum plus super About you: You have extensive (over 5 years) leadership experience in a veterinary or related field You have demonstrated work history of a people-based approach to leadership, showing empathy, humility and transparency in all interactions You see the value in connecting frequently with your team You have an enthusiastic and compassionate approach to patient care and support your team to deliver high-quality veterinary intervention You possess excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills You are flexible, with the desire to consult with colleagues and stakeholders to inform your approach You are a true operations champion, seeking out new ways to streamline processes whilst having a deep respect for the ways things have been You understand people who are going through change and what they need to feel comforted during these times You support and facilitate a gold-standard approach to veterinary care, always seeking out best practice recommendations You have a genuine interest in wildlife and conservation and an understanding of the relationship between zookeepers and the animals they care for Tertiary qualifications in either Veterinary, Science or Management will be highly regarded As a Zoos Victoria employee you will enjoy a flexible Monday to Friday roster, access to our EAP and Compassion Fatigue practitioners, ZV annual membership for you and your family to all our properties, and a staff discount to retail and food outlets.
