This includes: Delivering high quality evidenced-based mental health profession-specific clinical services to patients/consumers within a highly functioning interprofessional team. Contributing to the advancement of quality post-disaster mental health recovery services and optimal patient care, through provision of service development, quality improvement, and clinical education. Monitoring and reporting on work practices and outcomes, including initiating, planning and evaluating relevant quality and research initiatives. Providing supervision and training to less experienced (HP3) clinicians, students, and Allied Health Assistants (AHA’s). Your key responsibilities Clinical / Technical Manage an allocated workload to deliver post-disaster mental health recovery and trauma-related services, including assessment, intervention, and evaluation within an interprofessional team in accordance with established clinical & departmental protocols, policies, and procedures, utilising evidence-based practice and ethical standards and under clinical practice supervision or professional guidance of more senior staff. Act as a clinical reference point with the post-disaster mental health recovery team and respond to everyday clinical demands. Collaborate on and undertake the development of evidence-based clinical practices, policies, and protocols within MSAMHS Disaster Flood Team. Apply increasingly independent clinical judgement to mental health profession-specific complex decision-making with only occasional clinical/professional supervision. Adapt routine clinical practice as required based on clinical evidence with minimal supervision and a high degree of independence. Assist in the identification, development, implementation, and/or review of clinical practices, procedures, and protocols in work areas using the principles of evidence-based practice under the guidance of senior staff. Actively participate in professional and interprofessional team meetings including clinical case conferences and departmental meetings. Undertake high level and non-routine duties including provision of clinical advice to other multidisciplinary and disaster recovery team members. Liaise and work effectively in a professional manner with clients and their carers, other health professionals, students, and external agencies to achieve a client-centred approach, utilising negotiation and conflict resolution skills as required. Utilise high level communication and interpersonal skills to achieve optimal patient and service delivery outcomes. Develop and maintain strategic links with community-based organisations to ensure appropriate and effective clinical handover and discharge planning processes are maintained. Ensure patients and other staff are treated fairly and with mutual respect and understanding, regardless of cultural, religious, ethnic, and linguistic backgrounds. Follow defined service quality standards, occupational health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces. Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the role and the roles of those in other professions and leverage this to establish and contribute to consumer goals. Provide safe, patient-centred and compassionate care considering each patient’s psychological, social, emotional, spiritual, and physical care. Work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders from government and non-government and community organisations in the post-disaster recovery settings. Individual and Work Unit Management Continually develop clinical practice knowledge, skills, and expertise through self-directed learning, active learning within a team environment and engaging in professional development activities, including participating in the performance appraisal and development plans. Demonstrate high level clinical and time management skills in screening and prioritising workload demands in a complex and high patient clinical environment. Utilise knowledge and skills in the area of post-disaster mental health recovery, trauma-related and profession-specific assessments and interventions to contribute to evidence-based reviews, outcome measures and reporting of key performance indicators. Contribute to recruitment processes within the Hospital and Health Service. Support the orientation of new starters. Engage in self-directed learning and contribute to the establishment of the mental health disaster recovery community education and responses. Leadership Provide education, direction, and supervision for routine tasks to less experienced staff, students, and support staff, with the support of senior clinical staff. Where appropriate, act as primary supervisor for student training. Demonstrate initiative in the development of clinical practice, procedures, and administrative protocols for mental health disaster recovery and the interprofessional team that support the continuum of care. Participate in relevant meetings, networks, forums, and committees and take a leadership role in implementation of trauma-related post-disaster clinical practices and protocols that support and foster better mental health preparedness for future disaster events. Service Improvement Initiate the identification, development, implementation, and evaluation of quality and service improvement and/or research activities that enhance the delivery of post-disaster recovery services. Assist in the identification, development, implementation, and/or review of clinical practices, procedures, and protocols in work areas using the principles of evidence-based practice under the guidance of senior staff. Mandatory qualifications, professional registration and other requirements Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and/or registration or membership with the appropriate association within Australia. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties. Vaccine Preventable Disease (VPD): It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment (Health Employment Directive No. 01/16): pertussis (whooping cough) Occupational Therapist: The possession of a tertiary degree in Occupational Therapy from a recognised tertiary institution and registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia (AHPRA). Psychologist – General: Applicants must possess an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited four-year qualification in Psychology, and be eligible for general registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA), Psychology Board of Australia (PsychBA). While not mandatory, a Psychology Board of Australia (PsychBA) area of practice endorsement in Clinical Psychology/Clinical Neuropsychology would be highly regarded, as would PsychBA approved Supervisor status. Psychologist – Clinical Psychology/Clinical Neuropsychology: Applicants must possess an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited Postgraduate qualification, and a Psychology Board of Australia (PsychBA) area of practice endorsement, and general registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA), Psychology Board of Australia (PsychBA). PsychBA approved supervisor status would be highly regarded. Social Worker: Possession of a tertiary qualification in Social Work and eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW). Overseas qualified social work candidates require a ‘certification of eligibility’ letter from the AASW to confirm their eligibility for membership to the AASW. This evidence should be included with your application for consideration. Social Workers must hold a Working with Children Blue Card prior to appointment to this position. This position requires the incumbent to operate a class C motor vehicle, and an appropriate licence endorsement to operate this type of vehicle is required.
