Our client is an established ASX listed gold producer currently focusing on the development of four new open cut mining operations in regional NSW. The four operations are at various stages of development with the first operation scheduled to commence in mid-2025. The company’s strategy is to develop and operate the pits sequentially utilising a central processing facility and to ensure that the operations run safely and efficiently to maximise revenues and profitability over a 12-year period. The first open pit operation will be mining approximately 1.2 mtpa of ore and waste movement of 6.5 mtpa. The strategy is to have an equipment supplier to provide and maintain the mining fleet, to utilise a contractor to provide drill and blast services and for the company to provide the technical and production workforce. Reporting to the Executive General Manager operations, the appointee will be responsible for establishing and managing the open pit mining operations to achieve optimum safety, productivity, and cost performance. The key responsibilities of this position would include: Determination, in conjunction with senior management, to finalise the best option/strategy to operate the open cut. Once determined, to execute that option/strategy - contractor selection, equipment selection, recruitment of the technical professionals, supervisors, and operators. Review and finalise short, medium, and longer-term mine plans and schedules. Appointment as statutory NSW Quarry Manager for the site and to create, implement, and oversee a framework, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable legislation. Leading and promoting a site safety culture and strong proactive safety leadership of the company workforce and contractors, the continuous maintenance of safety standards and the management of critical risks. Driving the consistent delivery of short, medium, and long-term production targets. Developing and enforcing contractor management plans, ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and operational guidelines. Lead and mentor a diverse team and foster a culture of safety, respect, and continuous improvement. Identify opportunities for cost and productivity improvements and lead the team to achieve those improvements. Fostering a positive employee relations environment where all employees want to contribute to the operation’s success. Coordinating activities to obtain approvals to develop the second, third, and fourth open cut mining operations. The position requires an individual with the following qualifications and experience: A degree in Mining Engineering. A NSW Quarry Manager certificate or an ability to quickly obtain the certification. 10+ years of experience in running open cut hard rock mining operations. Strong understanding of open cut mining processes and equipment. A proactive and committed approach to ensuring compliance with all legal, safety, and environmental requirements. Demonstrated ability to lead and effectively manage mining teams. The successful candidate will be an individual who has a strong focus on achieving the best possible performance from their team and is absolutely committed to establishing a happy, productive, and safe mining team. A significant portion of the workforce will be “green” employees from the local region, and there must be a strong desire to train and develop the employees and create a genuine team environment. A background in both owner-operator and contract mining operations would be advantageous. An excellent remuneration package is offered with this position, and there will be flexibility as to whether the appointee will be residential or DIDO/FIFO.
