Full-Time Ongoing Role, Sydney/Hybrid or Remote About Mob Strong Debt Help Since 2018, Financial Rights has been proudly operating Mob Strong Debt Help (“Mob Strong”). Mob Strong is a free nationwide legal advice and financial counselling program for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. We specialise in helping individuals manage debts from consumer loans (such as credit cards, pay day loans and car loans), banking, debt recovery and insurance (including car, home, travel, life and funeral) in a culturally safe manner. Our advocacy work aims to reform laws, systems and practices to promote financial well-being within the community. About Financial Rights Legal Centre Financial Rights Legal Centre (Financial Rights) is a community based legal centre in Surry Hills specialising in financial services, particularly credit, banking, insurance and debt. The role We are seeking to employ an enthusiastic Financial Counsellor for a 2-year contract with the possibility of ongoing employment subject to funding. This is a full-time role, and part time options will be considered. Commitment to consumer rights and cultural safety essential. The position involves providing information, financial counselling advice and referrals via the centre’s intake channels. The channels include the Mob Strong Debt Help line, Youpla line and the Caseworker line. The role also includes providing advocacy for clients via task assistance or ongoing casework. We are passionate about social justice Employee Assistance Program, a free and confidential counselling service We seek someone who: Is culturally competent and works in a culturally safe manner Has experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities Is passionate about improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities Has or is working towards accreditation as a financial counsellor with the Financial Counselling Association of NSW (FCAN) or equivalent in another state or territory Demonstrates a proven track record of providing financial counselling services Exhibits a demonstrated ability to provide non-judgemental, quality service delivery to disadvantaged clients and clients from diverse backgrounds Showcases a strong passion for social justice coupled with an aptitude for advocacy and awareness of client’s social context Displays excellent oral and written communication skills Ready to Make an Impact?
