Museum coordinator – Marks-Hirschfeld Museum of Medical History Apply Locations: Herston Campus Time type: Part time Posted on: Posted Yesterday Job requisition ID: R-48101 Faculty of Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences Part-time (60%), fixed-term position through to 31st December 2025 Base salary will be in the range $91,658.60 - $98,330.37 + 17% Superannuation (HEW Level 6) Based at our Herston Campus About This Opportunity The Museum coordinator is primarily responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Marks-Hirschfeld Museum of Medical History, which is based at the Mayne Medical School building, Herston. The Museum is the proud custodian of one of the most significant and comprehensive collections of medical material heritage in Australia, home to over 8000 objects including instruments, machines, books, textiles, photographs, artworks, personal effects and ephemera representing almost every medical specialty. The Museum coordinator role undertakes collection management, provides curatorial support, coordinates volunteers, and participates in community liaison and outreach. An important element of the role is ensuring industry standards are met in the Museum. Key responsibilities will include: Oversee collection management, including cataloguing, handling, storage, conservation, and conducting research to support acquisitions, deaccessions, and collection audits. Coordinate external loans, including liaising with lenders, object selection, condition reporting, and preparing loan agreements; manage volunteers and interns through induction, training, and mentoring. Develop and deliver community outreach programs, promote the Museum in collaboration with UQ Marketing, assist with exhibitions, and implement operational procedures to enhance efficiency and align with the Museum’s strategic direction. The position reports to the Principal Museum Curator, Faculty of HMBS. About You Degree level qualification in Museum Studies, History, Arts Management and/or a health-related discipline with subsequent relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training. Demonstrated experience working with a museum collection including collection management, exhibition installation, public programming and electronic database management. Demonstrated organisational and project-management skills, including a proven ability to initiate and oversee multiple concurrent projects and the capacity to lead/manage volunteers. Ability to plan and work independently, to prioritise own workload, to work to deadlines and to meet organisational goals. Excellent interpersonal skills and high-level written communication skills including the ability to write reports, contracts and documents requiring exceptional attention to detail. Ability to lift 10Kgs. Desirable : Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite including Access, Adobe Creative Suite skills an advantage.
