Our client is the largest integrated construction materials company in Australia, producing and selling a broad range of construction materials, including quarry products, cement, concrete, asphalt and recycled materials. Employing circa 7,500 employees and contractors nationally, their extensive footprint includes some 360 operating sites nationally. Located in Port Melbourne, today they are seeking to appoint a Performance Manager (National Logistics) (3,000 heavy mobile assets) to embed continuous improvement initiatives, drive efficiencies and improve the asset utilisation of its core assets. Your key responsibility is driving fleet productivity across multiple business units, setting national standards, and guiding strategic logistics decision-making to enhance overall performance. This role involves managing a high performing team of 2 (a Reporting Analyst and a Commercial Lead), reporting on initiatives, tracking performance against budget and overseeing/influencing a larger indirect team of up to 14 Logistics Managers. In this well-established role, you will take a proactive leadership approach, working in collaboration with the Legal, Procurement, Commercial Finance Managers for each business vertical and 14 Logistics Managers along with other peers, supporting the embedding and sustainability of a best in class operation, which also includes the coaching and mentoring of your direct reports and the logistics managers as required. The national logistics footprint has been established, so this is an opportunity for a talented Strategic and Proactive Logistics Performance Manager to identify savings/efficiencies, and then proactively support the successful delivery of our clients’ mobile assets divisional goals in a standardised way to drive economic efficiency. Your key duties and responsibilities will include: Strategic Decision Making Provide strategic insights and recommendations to senior management to improve logistics performance. Provide future logistics operating model direction, blending company and non-company fleet, to align to business objectives. Use market insights to determine strategic opportunities to optimise cost and service. Support the development of broader logistics functions across labour, asset management, technology and procurement. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and execute logistics operating model strategy. Fleet Productivity Using logistics best practice acumen, drive fleet productivity and efficiency across multiple business units. Monitor and analyse fleet performance metrics and KPIs to identify areas for improvement. Develop and implement strategies to optimize fleet utilization and reduce operational costs. Support business units with the identification and management of tactical and long-term logistics productivity initiatives. Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to drive performance and productivity. Standardisation Establish and maintain national standards for logistics operations across business units. Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and best practices. Coordinate with regional managers to align operational processes and procedures. Develop processes and documentation to be shared and implemented by logistics managers. Team Management Lead and manage a high performing small team. Provide guidance, mentorship, and performance evaluations to team members. Foster a collaborative and high-performance team environment. Provide overall logistics expertise to broader business, based on prior industry experience. Reporting and Tracking Preparation and presentation of monthly logistics performance reporting including budget and KPIs analysis to SteerCo’s: (CEO, CFO & multiple EGMs). Develop and maintain reporting systems to track the performance of logistics initiatives. Communicate findings and recommendations to senior management and stakeholders. Budget Management Participate in logistics budget planning and management. Track expenditures and ensure initiatives are delivered within budget constraints. Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement measures to achieve financial targets. (eg efficiencies in subcontractor and cartage costs, labour, R&M). What you will bring to this role: Minimum of 5 years of experience in logistics or supply chain management, with a focus on performance improvement. Strong leadership – Proven experience in managing teams and leading cross-functional projects. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and make strategic recommendations. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with strong decision-making, negotiation and influencing skills. Proficiency in logistics management software and tools. Strong understanding of logistics operations, fleet management, and industry regulations. Telematics knowledge (advantageous). Confident negotiating and influencing skills. A preference to create/work with frameworks, utilising best in class standardisation practices to maximise on asset utilisation and productivity outputs. A desire to continually seek efficiency and quality improvements. Highly organised and deadline driven. Proven Project Management and Change management expertise. A highly collaborative style/approach, with proven success engaging a wide stakeholder group to drive/deliver significant improvements in asset utilisation and maintenance schedule compliance. A high level of customer centricity, with proven success managing stakeholder expectations/needs. A consultative hands-on approach, confident in your ability to operate with a diverse workforce. Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
