Position Overview The Patient Services Specialist (PSS) is responsible for welcoming and directing patients, answering, screening, routing phone calls, and checking patients in and out. The PSS will also be responsible for scheduling patients and transcribing charges for billing purposes. Job Specific Responsibilities: Promptly answer and direct all incoming phone calls to the appropriate area. Check patients in and out accurately and efficiently. Verify and update all patient demographics. Schedule patients according to protocol and guidelines. Prepare and prep staff for daily patient schedule. Electronically transcribe charges from nursing and provider staff for billing purposes. Prepare paper records for electronic storage. Confirm appointments and document responses in EMR. Receive and upload laboratory, imaging, and other procedural results into the patient’s e-chart. Hospital Policies: Adhere to organization-wide and other applicable policies and procedures. Day-to-day performance complies with the hospital’s Service Excellence Behavioral Expectations. Perform within the prescribed limits of the hospital’s Ethics, Compliance and Confidentiality Program guidelines. Perform within professional Scope of Practice. Experience Requirements Required: At least one year of receptionist experience. Preferred: Prior experience working in a medical practice/office or healthcare related field. Special Skills and Abilities Required: Basic computer skills, an ability to effectively communicate, and multitask. Preferred: Familiar with medical terminology, proficient in Microsoft Office, and prior experience with an electronic medical record platform. Licensure / Certification Requirements Preferred: Medical Assistant certification.
