La Trobe University is seeking an experienced Plant SynBio Project Manager to lead the Plant Synthetic Biology (Plant SynBio) node within the La Trobe Institute for Sustainable Agriculture & Food (LISAF). This position is part of a national initiative funded by BioPlatforms Australia (BPA) under the NCRIS scheme, aimed at advancing plant-based gene editing, transgenesis, and biomanufacturing. About the Role As the Plant SynBio Project Manager, you will play a key role in managing and delivering research projects in plant synthetic biology. Your expertise will drive collaborations with industry, government, and research institutions, ensuring the successful implementation of the LTU Plant SynBio strategy. You will be responsible for: Leading and managing research services and administrative teams Overseeing research projects, funding strategies, and partnerships Engaging with industry and research bodies to secure funding and grow the platform Contributing to high-impact synthetic biology research through publications, patents, and commercialised products Ensuring regulatory compliance and intellectual property management in gene technology Identifying and implementing cutting-edge infrastructure and equipment for synthetic biology research About You To be successful in this role, you will need: A PhD or equivalent experience in synthetic biology, molecular biology, or a related field Proven experience in staff leadership, project management, and commercialisation Expertise in gene editing, pathway design, transgenesis, or related biotechnologies Strong understanding of regulatory compliance and intellectual property management in genetically modified organisms A track record of industry engagement, securing research contracts, and delivering successful projects The ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively across academic and industry sectors Why La Trobe Work at an innovative, globally recognised university with a commitment to sustainability and cutting-edge research.
