About APGA The Australian Pipelines and Gas Association’s members are at the forefront of decarbonising Australia’s gas system, aiming to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. The industry has outlined the steps needed to achieve these goals through the work of Gas Vision 2050. APGA members build, own and operate the gas transmission and processing infrastructure connecting natural and renewable gas production around the country to demand centres. Our members ensure the safe and reliable delivery of more than a quarter of the end-use energy consumed in Australia and are helping achieve net-zero through the development of renewable gases like hydrogen and biogas. Position Summary The Policy Manager or Senior Policy Manager specialises in policy and regulatory frameworks affecting the gas transmission sector and broader domestic gas market. This role ensures that APGA remains actively engaged with government bodies, regulatory agencies, and industry stakeholders on key issues, including energy market regulations, gas supply policies, decarbonisation initiatives, and evolving energy transition frameworks. The role takes a comprehensive approach across the gas supply chain, from production to end-use, advocating for policies that support the resilience and competitiveness of gas infrastructure and downstream industries. The role will monitor regulatory trends, economic priorities, and evolving energy policies at both state and national levels, ensuring that APGA’s positions align with industry challenges and opportunities across diverse jurisdictions. Key Responsibilities Policy Analysis and Advocacy Analyse policy developments and regulatory frameworks affecting gas transmission and the broader gas supply chain across different jurisdictions. Prepare detailed policy submissions, position papers, and reports addressing regulatory issues and their impact on gas transmission and energy markets. Provide insights into regulatory trends, legislative changes, and government policies that impact the domestic gas sector. Maintain a comprehensive understanding of planning, environmental regulations, and gas infrastructure development across different markets. Contribute to APGA’s policy development strategies, ensuring alignment with national and regional energy objectives. Monitor developments in energy markets, particularly in relation to gas demand, pricing mechanisms, and supply chain integration. Support APGA’s advocacy efforts on gas supply adequacy, energy transition policies, and infrastructure investment. Stakeholder Engagement and Relationship Management Develop and maintain strong relationships with government agencies, regulatory bodies, policymakers, and industry groups. Engage with key stakeholders across the gas supply chain, including upstream producers, pipeline operators, and large industrial users. Regulatory and Legislative Monitoring Track policy and regulatory changes and assess their implications for the gas sector. Provide regular updates and briefings on government initiatives, regulatory reviews, and policy shifts. Identify emerging issues and opportunities in gas policy to ensure APGA remains proactive in its advocacy efforts. Skills and Experience Experience and knowledge Extensive experience in energy policy, advocacy, or regulatory affairs. Strong understanding of Australia’s energy market, gas industry, and regulatory frameworks. Proven ability to influence outcomes at senior levels of government and industry. Experience in leading teams and managing complex stakeholder relationships. Demonstrated expertise in media engagement and strategic campaign development. Skills Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Strong leadership, negotiation, and relationship-building capabilities. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines. Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities. Qualifications Tertiary qualifications in policy, economics, law or a related discipline.
