Our teams of researchers lead key internationally competitive research from molecules to medicines, from patient to policy, across a range of therapeutic areas. The University is seeking to employ a Postdoctoral Research Associate (Level A) to lead a national survey of Australian patient and consumer health organisations and to contribute substantially to other project components. These include co-design of a ‘toolkit for independence’ to address governance of industry sponsorships, a scoping review on conflict-of-interest codes, and a systematic review on effectiveness of organisational policies for independence. This position is linked to a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) grant: A stronger voice for Australian patients and health consumers: toolkit for independence. This project's overarching aim is to identify how best to facilitate and support a strong and independent patient voice in Australian health policy through co-design of a 'toolkit' to assist patient groups navigate industry sponsorship arrangements. Working within the Evidence, Policy and Influence Collaborative (EPIC), under the supervision of Professor Barbara Mintzes, the incumbent will work closely with a broader team of project investigators based at the University of Sydney, Health Consumers New South Wales, Consumers Health Forum, Australian National University, Istituto Mario Negri (Italy), York University (Canada), University of Colorado (USA), and University of Bath (UK). This multi-disciplinary project involves close collaboration between consumer health organisations and academic researchers and the project spans the disciplines of epidemiology, bioethics, political science, law and sociology, this research is expected to contribute substantially to improved public policy in Australia and internationally. The Post-doctoral Research Associate will be based within the Charles Perkins Centre within the Camperdown campus. Your key responsibilities will be to: Primary responsibility for the survey protocol, questionnaire development, piloting, survey administration, analysis and reporting. Evidence synthesis and collaboration in a patient and consumer group led co-design process, working to develop a practical ‘toolkit’ to assist patient groups better manage industry sponsorship decisions and arrangements. Collaborate closely with a multi-disciplinary academic and patient and consumer group team. Responsible for protocol development, conducting and analysis of cognitive interviews, piloting data analysis and drafting manuscripts. Conducting training sessions, data collection and analysis. About you PHD or equivalent in a relevant discipline, such as health and/or pharmaceutical policy or healthcare ethics. Proven demonstrated understanding of the subject-matter within the discipline. Developing research profile in discipline or area of expertise. Experience in writing research grants and preparing reports for stakeholders or funding agencies. High level research skills in survey design. Proficiency in qualitative research methods. Statistical analyses skills for observational data and cohort analyses. Experience working in the non-profit sector considered an asset. Work Rights You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this employment to apply.
