Principal API Engineer Employment Type: 6 x Temporary roles until 30 June 2026 Location: Flexible/hybrid working arrangements available across NSW, with some travel to Sydney metro locations required from time to time (negotiable) Grade: Clerk 11/12 Salary Range: $145,378 – $168,130 p.a. base salary dependent on experience, plus 11.5% superannuation. The opportunity We are now inviting applications for the opportunity of Principal API Engineer for Government Technology Platforms, within Digital NSW as it transforms to become the state's trusted partner for digital enablement. Day to Day Responsibilities Attending agile ceremonies such as stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint reviews, etc. Participating in code reviews to ensure high-quality code is delivered and all engineers stay abreast of the mono-repo platform and component library. Mentoring fellow engineers on best practices through clear and concise communication to promote growth, learning, and career development. What you will bring to this role Expertise in developing and managing practices that apply best methodologies and industry standards, coordinating input from developers to ensure clarity in a Digital Agile environment. Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing specifications and systems design, exploring various problem-solving approaches to enhance delivery and improve ways of working. Experience in driving the analysis and implementation of improvements to maximize service value, including process automation, cost-benefit assessments, and change management. Demonstrated experience in resource planning and allocation across squads for operational service delivery, leveraging technical expertise to translate user stories into effective, user-centered design solutions. Experience in developing and refining estimation procedures while overseeing all stages of the software development process to ensure compliance with security standards, effective team communication, and fulfillment of documented requirements. Expertise in monitoring and reporting on 3rd level support for applications to minimize defects and incidents, while analyzing customer feedback to drive continuous improvements in products and service delivery. Essential Requirements Tertiary qualifications in appropriate discipline and/or relevant demonstrated working experience.
